Earlier this week we looked back at some of the best textiles and home accessories by the iconic Finnish company Marimekko as it enters into its sixth decade. The company is celebrating their big year with a big, bold flagship store in Manhattan's Flatiron district -- its first standalone shop in the city since the 1960s -- which just opened its doors this week to great applause. If the jam-packed 4,000-square-foot shop was any indication, Marimekko has made a triumphant return to the Big Apple.

From the firm's signature graphic textiles to the brightly colored tableware to the adorable children's clothing and accessories, the eye-popping store has already warmed our hearts and we're sure to be making more trips there this fall. And don't fret if you're not in New York City, Marimekko's newly launched online shop has just as much to offer. See what Marimekko's CEO Mika Ihamuotila has to say about the fabulous flagship store below.

Why now for Marimekko's return to New York with a brand new store?
The store is the spearhead of our strategy for the United States. Its mission is to showcase the world of Marimekko at its best offering its full scope to American consumers. The flagship will support our online store, which opened in the summer, and our large-scale US cooperation with Crate and Barrel. At the moment, there are already six Marimekko stores inside Crate and Barrel home furnishings stores, with 17 more that we're intending to open.

Fun fact about the new store?
There's an in-house seamstress at the store. She has her own station to make custom items.

What are three words that sum up this Marimekko store?
Vibrant, energetic, timeless
