National Novel Writing Month: Penning A Whole Novel In 1 Month (VIDEO)

WATCH: Can You Write A Whole Novel In Just 1 Month?

November 1st brings NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. The goal for participating authors is to complete a 50,000 word novel in the span of only one month.

While this proves to be quite a difficult challenge for some writers, others have found success in this method. The BBC reporter in this video speaks to several women who have all had their one-month work eventually published. However, Julia Crouch, one of these authors, warns participants that they should restrain themselves from rushing to send their novels to publishers come December 1st, and stresses the importance of rewrites.

At the very least, the process can prove therapeutic. Carys, a participating writer, says, "People spend thousand of pounds on therapy sometimes. All I have to do is spend a month writing a novel."
