10/ 7/11 08:31 PM ET   AP

NEW YORK -- AT&T Inc. says initial demand for the iPhone 4S has made it the most successful iPhone launch of the company has ever had.

The telecommunications giant said Friday that it received more than 200,000 preorders for the iPhone 4S within the first 12 hours that the Dallas company began taking orders for the popular Apple smartphone.

AT&T and rivals Sprint Nextel Corp. and Verizon Wireless started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4S on Friday.

Apple Inc. is making the latest version of the iPhone available on Oct. 14.

AT&T shares added 10 cents to $28.60 in aftermarket trading. The stock rose 3 cents to $28.44 during the regular session.

I'll say what I always say on these threads. Apple products are good. Windows products are good. Android products are good. I don't enjoy making others feel like crap about their choices. If you like what you've got, you've made a smart purchase. And if you like making people feel like crap about their choices, you've got a personality disorder.

Looks like someone got their hands on an iPhone 4S and ran some benchmarks. I haven't been able to watch the video as I'm at work but it looks like it is SMOKING other high end phones by a BIG margin.

Looks like (at least in this test) it is leaving the Galaxy S II in the dust.

Both Sunspider and Browsermark tested.

2 hours ago (5:01 PM) I agree with Sy4. I've had different brands of phones and I think the iPhone is the most pleasurable to use too. I think getting apps from them is the smoothest experience because they are vetted before they are sold in the app store. Some people don't like that but I do.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hear that people buy Apps...(applications????) but I don't really know what that means. I know I have been offered FREE apps from my bank and my American Express card, but, I don't really know what that means either...LOL...I am assuming it means I can do my banking on the phone, right? But, what kind of Apps can one buy? What are some of the popular ones that most people buy and are they expensive?

GPS apps, security apps, apps to remotely access systems and databases, apps to make traveling a more tolerable experience, etc., etc.  If you want the phone for just the phone, get a regular phone.  If you want the phone to also be a highly portable computer, then get the apps.

ATT Scam artist, the pre-approve you, you must call to verify order and they do a check on you and say well congrats on your application. All you have to do is pay $750 and you should be good to go. I was like what the freak, really I have been with T-Mobile for years now. I just wanted to get into the I Phone. But for that price sorry I'm good to go.

I've never had a smart phone; my contract rolls over in Jan and I am planning on getting my FIRST one ever! I am so confused as to what is good and what isn't. I am leaning toward getting the new I-phone but only because everyone is saying how GREAT the technology of it is. I wish I was more of a smart phone nerd, but, I am not. I have not even ever played with someone else's phone before, so, I am a complete newbie. Any links? Any ideas? Any advice?

Thanks,

(a peaceful war vet)

For someone who has never had one, I think the iPhone is the safest bet. The interface is very simple and you don't need to know much about technology to click around on the apps and figure out what you need to do on it. There are a lot of people who will argue about which one is the best, but there's no argument about which one is the easiest to use.

How funny, that something that a non-tech person can easily use is thought of as a negative! It reminds me of almost any sport for instance in which someone using equipment that is esoteric scoffs at those using something that is popular with a wider range of people. Or maybe it's more like the gamer community. It's all about what new supercharged bad-mutha video card you're using.

If you don't have a smartphone, then they're "toys."
If you prefer one brand over the other, you're an intelligent consumer, and the other brand's customers are "sheep".

What about someone who uses the tool they like best, doesn't feel it necessary to defend the choice, and doesn't care what his neighbor is using?

It's not about making other people feel bad about what they don't have it's about making people feel happy and secure with their cell phone purchase. Although when people are thrilled with their purchase and bragging to their friends about how wonderful it is, I suppose that's helpful advertising as well.

It is a far gone conclusion that HP is Married to apple.

credibility is slipping away fast here.

This place has more apple promotions than an apple FANSITE.

If they were really watching and reporting which Mobile phone platform is selling ( out selling apple 50 to 1 and MORE. You would see real information out here.

Sorry AH This reeks of a sell out.

People don't hate apple , people just hate all of apples lies.

That is all

iOS has a bigger market share than Android... Android is winning in the smartphone space and certainly not 50 to 1.

HP reports on Apple news because their stories get hits and comments, Android articles don't get nearly as much nor do their releases generate as much buzz... Facts...

This place had credibility? :)

One comment though, there is of course only one phone being made by one company on the Apple platform, which of course isn't true for Android.

yeah, who cares? This entire site is on Apple's payroll

We won't even allow Walmart into my fine country,. We value small businesses. Our neighbor Germany booted them out after 2 years.

The irony is palpable. Steve Jobs says "Think Different" but a lot of Apple's money is made off of posers and followers, trying to be the first to be like everyone else
