Sarah Deming, Michigan Resident, Sues FilmDistrict For Misleading 'Drive' Trailer

Sarah Deming has had it with bad movie trailers. The Michigan resident is suing FilmDistrict for misrepresenting "Drive" -- the Nicolas Winding Refn thriller starring Ryan Gosling -- in its trailer, WDIV-TV reported. All she wants is her ticket refunded... and an end to bad movie trailers everywhere. Vagueness is a winning argument, right?

According to Deming's lawsuit, the film is not like "Fast and Furious," as the trailer had her believe: "DRIVE bore very little similarity to a chase, or race action film… having verly [sic] little driving in the motion picture."

For most, this didn't seem to be as big of an issue. The film received a 93 percent fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and 79 percent approval from the audience.

But it's not just the trailer that needs to be rectified. It's the substance of the film itself. Deming also took issue with its portrayal of Jewish people, noting that the racism directed toward them in the film equates to "promotion of criminal violence against members of the Jewish faith." We're not sure how this factors into a lawsuit about a bad trailer, but as is often the case with frivolous lawsuits, they don't make total sense.

WATCH the trailer for "Drive." Did you feel like you'd been had?

Tikkun Olam is the Jewish concept that God wants all people to come together, follow his Commandments and treat each human being with kindness, empathy and fairness. This is the same that Jesus taught.

The movie's efforts to dehumanize one race, whether Jewish, black, brown, Hispanic, Islamic, Chinese, whatever, is to influence the viewer to the anti-God concept that one race is good and other is bad. This is what Hitler, Stalin, and what that idiot in Iran is doing today.

The movie is not important: what is important is the viewer (blogger's response).

So, either you can see through the movie as anti-God or it leads to an acceptance of racial prejudice and the negative comments by the bloggers that this has something to do with money (again a characterization).

Go get them Sarah! For those who forgot, Sarah was Abraham's wife and father the Isaac who established the Judeo-Christian concepts on which our America is based.

You (bloggers) are what the movie is about. Remember what Churchill said:
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

Vote again bloggers. Are you for or against God?

wait is this a direct attack on the film industry for their history of bashing the Jewish community or is this someone who is attempting to fulfill a stereotype?

I wish this was a joke.

Unfortunately, it will end up being used by conservatives as evidence of an overly litigious society. This sort of crap ruins it for the rest of us.

If this succeeds, may I sue Barenaked Ladies for false advertising?

This made me smile. I think the lawsuit would be better (funnier) if they'd mentioned Smokey and the Bandit instead of Fast & the Furious.

I agree with her, I want my money back too. The trailers and commercials were completely misleading... to the point where all the actual driving that took place in the film was all in the trailer! I want to sue them too cause I walked into this movie wanting to see car chases and action. All I got was a long, drawn out character piece. Usually I like those movies but that day I wasn't in the mood for one. I want to sue the studio too!

That is why I always read a review of the film beforehand. I went to see Funny Games and there where people talking through the first half and getting up leaving in a huff, because they didn't bother to research the film and were obviously upset. It ruined my experience. If you saw Funny Games, you will know it is not "funny" at all.

Dude, not all decisions to see a movie are made with oodles of time to do research. I was actually invited to see a movie less than an hour before it started, so my decision to see 'Drive' was actually based on the trailer, which was very misleading. If I had done the research into Drive, which I usually do when not hit up by friends to see it at the very last minute... there is a chance I likely would have loved it. But because I was there at the last minute, only worked off the trailer and was actually in a mood to see an action movie... it was a very bad movie going experience for me. I really hope she wins and makes it a class action, because studios need to stop releasing these horrible trailers that are very misleading!

And somehow you believe you deserve to waste the courts time, involve high priced lawyers and receive money because you were inconvenienced by seeing a movie you weren't in the mood for? What's wrong with you? Why would you want to do something so foolish and would very likely make you a pariah?

I really do hope you are joking.
