After A Decade, Husband And Wife Still Cleaning China's Great Wall

Great Haul: Couple Cleans Litter From China's Tourist-Friendly Wall

A Chinese couple has spent more than a decade cleaning up tourist litter at the Great Wall of China, working alongside each other to carry out the hundreds of pounds of trash that accumulate at the site every day.

Using traditional brooms and dust pans, the couple also relies on ropes to haul out sacks of garbage weighing up to 100 pounds. Shifts last 10 hours.

"Sometimes we help each other, wife Qian Erling tells the BBC. "But I can also handle it without him," she adds with a laugh.

With thousands of tourists visiting the Badaling section of the wall every day -- it's just 50 miles from Beijing -- the BBC reports that the need for garbage collection will surely increase.
