In a statement on the death of franchise patriarch Al Davis, the Oakland Raiders assured fans that "The fire that burns brightest in the Raider organization, "THE WILL TO WIN," will continue to blaze through the legacy of the great Al Davis."
The mourning members of the Raiders organization backed up that statement with a thrilling road win in Houston.
Behind Sebastian Janikoswki's four field goals (three from 50 yards out or more) and quarterback Jason Campbell's two touchdown passes, the Raiders took a 25-17 lead in the fourth quarter. But the Texas refused to go quietly and were driving for a go-ahead score in the final minute. On the game's decisive play, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub rolled out to his left at the 5-yard line. With seven seconds remaining in the game, Schaub found Texans wide receiver Jacoby Jones in the end zone, but he didn't put enough zip on the pass and Michael Huff was able to step in front of Jones to make the interception.
Raiders coach Hue Jackson, who fell to his knees buried his face in his hands after Matt Schaub threw the game-clinching interception in the end zone, couldn't hold back the tears during his postgame speech.
"Losing that man hurt me more than you know," he said, struggling to get the words out. "But you know what? It's like I told you, he loves you guys. Just like he loves this coaching staff and this organization. And that man, that was a hell of a job by you, Michael Huff. But I'll tell you this. Al Davis had his hands on that ball."
Once the game was sealed, Jackson and one of his coordinators hugged, while the coaches up in the booth celebrated as well.
Jackson said after the game that he was surprised about how emotional he was.
"I thought I had it all out the other day," he said, referring to the meeting he had with his players shortly after Davis' death.. "Obviously I didn't. I know he's looking down on this team and he's with us every step of the way."
