We were privileged to experience the true Internet, the open and free exchange of information across borders without corporate and government hindrance.

Watch it disappear as these entities define which content is 'safe' for you. Pornography is an easy target, but the precedent is terrible. An ISP telling you which websites the network connection you pay for can access is no different than your phone company telling you which numbers you can dial, your government telling you which library books you can have.

We'll remember the real Internet fondly.

I just wonder what could become of the "opt-in list". Could a an employer somehow find out that Joe in accounting has opted in to view porn. Could he be fired or discriminated against for it? I could see this happening with school teacher and people who work with kids in particular.

The Internet was meant to be for freedom of expression. So, now the ISPs want to regulate this. Regardless of how one feels about it, porn is easy to ignore. What is more troubling is -what is next? Are they going to restrict content they don't like? What is this discriminatory act a prelude to?

And, some of you who say it's no big deal must be the same people who say, about the Patriot Act, "if you've done nothing wrong, you have absolutely nothing to worry about."

I don't think this is a terrible thing. I don't have a problem with porn, but I know the filters we have dont always work. I had filters set when my son was in middle school and he still found porn photo sites at 13. So I solved it by taking the computer out of his room. If this isn't something you need to worry about then opt-in.

Oh here we go again. The conservatives for smaller government and fewer regulations now want bigger government and more regulations, all in the name of "freedom." This is on the way to the USA faster than Tea Party members run to the mailbox on "Fake Disability Check Day." I predict it will have all the success (you can laugh) of Texas' abstinence only education.

Even the Brits have their bible thumpers. Oh well, they've officially joined the club of digital censorship nations founded and led by communist China.
