Iran Terror Warning: U.S. Issues Alert Over Alleged Plot To Assassinate Saudi Ambassador

By MATTHEW LEE   10/12/11 12:31 AM ET   AP

WASHINGTON -- The State Department is warning Americans around the world of the potential for terrorist attacks against U.S. interests following the exposure of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States.

In a new worldwide travel alert issued late Tuesday, the department said the foiled scheme could be sign that Iran has adopted a "more aggressive focus" on terrorist activity. It said Iranian-sponsored attacks could include strikes in the United States, where the alleged plot against the Saudi envoy was supposed to have taken place, as well as other countries.

"The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens of the potential for anti-U.S. actions following the disruption of a plot, linked to Iran, to commit a significant terrorist act in the United States," it said in the warning that expires on Jan. 11, 2012.

"The U.S. government assesses that this Iranian-backed plan to assassinate the Saudi ambassador may indicate a more aggressive focus by the Iranian government on terrorist activity against diplomats from certain countries, to include possible attacks in the United States," the alert said.

Earlier Tuesday, the Justice Department announced the indictment of two men, including an Iranian-born U.S. citizen, for conspiring with a purported Mexican drug cartel to kill the Saudi ambassador on U.S. soil.

I guess they abandoned the original idea of framing a bunch of yellow taxi cab drivers in favor of a used car dealer with attention deficit disorder.

According to transcripts of the interviews between the Iranians and FBI agents, the ones that suggested a plot against the Saudis were the FBI agents. The Iranians wanted to sell drugs to the Mexican Cartel and the FBI agents were posing as members of the cartel.

This is the beginning of amny more distracting stories for the next 13 months from the Obama/Holder team to take Americas attention away from all of the scandals that have been discoved involving this administration and Rush is right as always. Holder's statement gave more concern about collateral damage than it did the actual terrorists which is no surprise since he has made his living defending these Islamis terrorists often pro bono.

You do know, that Obama and AdmenoDinoJob go way back to Barry's ACORN, Jeremiah Wright, Farahkan, Nation of Islam days, right?

Come one, POTUS!

Don't leave Billary and ol' erring Eric flopping around on the poop deck like a couple of suffocating carp.

Eric's already up on a subpeana for Fast & Furious and probably not the most trust worthy spokesman.

Forget Mit Romney's "flip flopping".

Now's the time for that big comparison to Lincoln, FDR,,,,,,ah, just go for Micky Mouse.

The US should send these two Iranian men to Saudi Arabia and let them deal with them. Since both countries are known for their public executions, cutting off hands and extreme measures of punishment. If this guy was arrested in Sept. why is this story just now coming out...perhaps to take the heat off of Eric Holder's screw up with his Operation Fast & Furious selling guns to drug cartel members!
11:01 PM on 10/12/2011
I think you are correct about Eric Holder and Fast & Furious.

Your "Saudi Solution" would be a good one, since I don't want my tax money putting these yoyos up for the next 20 years, but it appears to me that the U.S and European role in Arab affairs is to basically do the Organization of the Islamic Conference's dirty work, and then apologize for it.

Congress has issued a subpeana to erring Eric, and if Holder hasn't had the old shedder going, I'll bet there's enough bring this whole admnisntration into the sunlight like a rotten mushroom.

Sending those guys to Saudi Arabia might be a good friendly gesture and it might send a very good message to terrorists everywhere. I suggest this kind of thing to speed up the peace process and for making Palestine a state and a member of the UN. All if Israel's neighbors military's will stand by at their borders when called after a terrorist attack in Israel to hand the terrorists back over to the Israel. Also this would send some terrifying messages to the terrorists and it would hopefully get Israel to lighten up when it comes to Palestinian-Israel cooperation and peace in their realm.

For my suggestion to work it assumes Israel's neighbors really want peace with Israel... and between Israel and Palestine...

And to think that this all went down in my proverbial "backyard"

I'm more terrified of the crazies out there with guns, like the guy who killed all those people in the Hair Salon in Seal Beach, California, than believing on all the TV news stations all day long...making the story more sensational and wilder by the hour. NO MORE WARS....for profit, oil and resources!

Backyard stuff would terrify us more than around the world stuff, which we might not even notice. Maybe that is why the hundreds of terrorists attacks against Israel, a country maybe smaller than New Jersey, before the 1978 invasion of Israel and the many since went pretty mush unnoticed here. Maybe that is why many people see only Israels assaults on Palestine but so not know or understand the history and the cause and effects of things. News can be slow on events at times but when it is exaggerated it is to sell their products. Not justified but that is 'business” to them. I very much agree with you when you say “NO MORE WARS....for profit, oil and resources” but I would like to add 'or for any reasons'.

It is so much more believable that Iran would do this than to think Obama and his people would fabricate it. I feel it in my bones that Iran would nuke Israel the instant they had the capability...

The FBI is trustworthy, so I believe the events are real.

However, I do smell an Obama con in it, somewhere, mostly because of the timing with Fast & Furious.

As for Iran, my best guess, is that Adminedinajab (sp?) has been out to discredit Al Queada as the premier raical Muslim voice to the point of insisting that Bush orchestrated 911 (whew!) so, possibly, a strike against the Wahabi Saudi and Jewish Isreali embassies would be a double hit in his Shiite popularity polls.

It's sick reasoning, but, well, nothing else makes sense.

How long is the waiting game going to go on before Iran one day literally hits Tev Aviv with a barrage of Missile Strikes? President Bashar Assad of Syria just last week threatened to set fire to the Middle East, and especially to Israel. Iran has threatened to burn down Tel Aviv a number of times.

Iran's recent brazen and bold move to kill the Saudi Ambassador on American soil is a Serious Threat and it has justifiably been condemned world wide. Both countries are a loose canon on deck and the Ayatollah is probably growing Senile and losing it with his recent statements.

If ever there was a case of a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities-and for that matter on selected Syrian targets, this is it in my view.

This is typical of Israelies! They treat everybody very poorly and when the people they push around push back they start to cry racism and hide behind the skirts of America! Enough!! Enough tax dollars enough American lives!! Turn off all funding to Israel!

You have the sequence of things very wrong. Try reading some history to get the facts straight and maybe take some courses in cause and effect....

I'd start reading with Micheal Oren's '6 Days of War", and then work on the bibliography.

You can also look up any of the Isreali conflicts in Wikipedia for a short version of things like the Yom Kippur War.

A few days ago I was in charge of the garbage and it was knocked over and I didn't do it but my wife blamed me anyway, lol. For Obama to do this would be very sad and not something I would believe until there was actual proof that he couldn't deny.

Hey -- FYI I have land in Tel Aviv to give away to nonJewish Palestinians for a small processing fee. Please send me your Credit card info now!

It does look like something saudi/Isreal could have planned to pin on Iran.

So we are to believe that Iran wants to assasinat.e the saudi ambassador in the US and they went to a Mexican Drug Cartel who agreed to do this in the USA???, yet I don't see one of the US Media even asking questions about this soo called plot, even UK media are asking the questions, but our media just parrot the government taliking points!!. After the wikileaks people still Just believe everything your government tells you??, Man we have become Sheep in this country!1.
