Charles Barkley Considering Donating TNT Salary To Charity, If Lockout Continues

Barkley 'Leaning Towards' Donating Salary To Charity

It seems some true good may come out of the NBA lockout.

Former NBA legend and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley stated Tuesday morning that in the event of a lockout he's strongly considering donating his analyst salary to charity. Barkley made the comment on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000, as part of a longer discussion on the lockout.

"I haven't told anybody, but I'm actually -- believe it or not -- I'm leaning toward donating it to charity," he said according to ESPN Chicago. "I don't think it's cool for me to take money I haven't earned."

While he hasn't been taking sides in the conflict, some of his comments today suggests a bit of sympathy for the owners. "We've been in a recession for basically three years," he said. "I think it's disingenuous to think all these owners, with as much money as they've been paying, haven't been losing some money. I don't know the answer to [whether they've lost as much as they claim]."

The charity donation wouldn't be entirely unexpected for the former superstar. Barkley has a long history of charity work and donations, namely supporting "Stand Up To Cancer," and even was filmed going in for a colonoscopy to support the cause.

Barkley has also been involved in various other charities and disaster relief efforts.

Sir Charles said that though he was yet to make a final decision on what to do if the players are locked out all season. However, he was apt to say, "I don't feel comfortable taking money for not working."
