Devin Norling And Sydney Sanders, Florida Couple, Arrested On First Date

First dates can be awkward, so it's good to find common interests, like long walks on the beach or petty crime.

Florida police arrested two teenagers last week for allegedly attempting a "dine-and-ditch" after the couple enjoyed their first date.

Authorities say that Devin Norling, 18, and Sydney Sanders, 19, were just finishing up their meal at the Indian River Mall T.G.I. Friday's when they began plotting to avoid the $25.16 bill, the TCPalm reports.

A restaurant manager explained that shortly after Sanders mentioned the couple was on their first outing, the pair attempted their first crime.

First, Sanders successfully made her way from the restaurant patio where the couple dined to the parking lot. Unfortunately for Norling, however, an alarm sounded after he attempted to leave through a fire exit, prompting a Friday's manager to corner Norling and insist that he pay for the meal. Instead, Norling fled again.

Authorities also say they discovered marijuana and a pipe in Sanders' purse.

Both teens face charges of obtaining food with intent to defraud. Police also charged Sanders with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Don't use the fire exit, the one with all the warnings about unauthorized opening, the one with the flashing light nearby, it tends to draw attention.

This has got to be the start of a long, meaningful relationship. I just love the whole concept of their pre-teen daughter asking wistfully, "Mommy, how did you and Daddy fall in love? What was your first date like?" They MUST stay together. Please!

Why are you so judgmental? Have you been to a Fridays lately? They suck! It took forever for me and my date to get food, the waitress refilled a lemonade with water, then we had to wait on silverware, then it took 20 min for the girl to pick up the check! We seriously considered leaving without paying while we were waiting for her to take his debit card. He paid, but she got no tip.
They should wash some dishes and then never go back to Friday's. I know I won't.

What ever happened to making them wash dishes for a couple hours. Have them work off the debt. And after slaving and sweating in the dish room for a couple hours, they'll most likely not try anything like that ever again.

Yes, they should be arrested and charged. As a waitress for twenty years people who dine and dash are more than annoying to me. The national coverage because they were on a date is a bit overkill. We have all messed up and done something we were not proud of, most of us just didn't get caught.

I have never had that happen to me when I was a waitress thankfully,but just wondering does it come out of your pay? I knew someone who worked at a gas station and they have to pay when someone steals gas if they dont get the plate number and if it happens 3 x they get fired.I know that happens alot. Thats not fair they should get cameras when its busy they cant wait on people and take down plate numbers at the same time and I know for me even if it wasnt busy I wouldnt be able to see the dang things anyways.

It depends on the restaurant and wether or not the waitress takes the cash or there is a cashier. Most places where the waitress takes the money will write you up (generally it's three write-ups and you are fired) or give you the option of paying for it. Places with a cashier generally don't do the write up or make the server pay unless it becomes a regular occurance.
