Physics Teacher Scoops One Hundred And Fifty Thousand Prize Fund

Teacher Over The Moon After Winning £150,000 For Physics Lesson

A Physics teacher has scooped £150,000 for her exciting physics lesson which uses homemade rockets and animation in a competition organised by e-learning site O2 learn.

Sharmila Hanson beat off rapping religious studies teacher and singing sociologists to win the prize money for her nine minute masterclass on Newton's Laws of Motion. Her school, the Bishop Wand Church of England School in Sunbury-on-Thames, will receive £100,000 of the money.

Planning to donate some of her winnings to a school in India, she said:

“I was astounded, humbled and overjoyed to find our film had won. The ethos of the competition was right up my street as I’m very keen to advance teaching beyond ‘chalk and talk’.

“On a recent trip to India I visited a primary school close to where I grew up, and was struck by the spirit and vitality of the teachers and students despite limited means. There was a big difference in attitudes towards education between there and the UK."
