First Posted: 10/16/2011 7:41 pm   Updated: 06/20/2012 1:11 pm

We know that finding the perfect wedding dress can be a challenge--especially when you want your dress to feel modern and on-trend.

To help guide you to "The One," we spent the last 72 hours staring at a parade of frothy wedding gowns at the Fall 2012 bridal fashion week in New York City -- a bi-annual event featuring dozens of fashion shows from top designers (Vera! Monique! Reem! Angel!) designed to showcase the latest wearable confections from some of the best and the brightest in the bridal fashion world (yeah, we know: sometimes our jobs are really tough).

Below, a few major themes that stand out from this season's stunning showcases thus far (check back for updates: we'll be adding to this as we see more shows!)

Whereas tones like nude, blush, gold, and off-white have popped up on runways in past seasons, this season was largely about true white and ivory tones

Not everyone looks good in a strapless dress, so why are there so many of them and so little choice?

If this is what a couture wedding gown looks like, I'll take off the rack, thank you very much!

A couple of these gowns were pretty but most looked like rags for the fad minded. I won't even get into the way the models look....

The meth head look semms to be still in vogue. I prefer them a bit juicier.

I thought a couple of the white dresses were rather pretty, but those twigs wearing them didn't do them justice.

The black wedding gown should go over well with the "Twilight" crowd.

Does anybody else remember the days when models were attractive? Now they all seem to be ugly emaciates stick figures with an attitude.

i didn't notice the ugly models; i was too busy being repulsed by the dresses...i wonder if anyone would actually wear that at her wedding...

A bridal gown/wedding dress is meant to be demure and modest, not blatant. Looking like Lady Gaga's impersonation of Madonna's coke bottle book might tell the world that your man caught one sexy broad, but is that really what you want people to remember about your wedding--that you had a wardrobe malfunction and you showed the viewing public what was supposed to have been meant for your mate alone?

As my grandmother put it so many years ago...the hint of a promise is far more alluring than a boldly stated fact.

They look like they are going to funerals not weddings.

At least the ones in the black dresses would be appropriately attired for that!
