Stacie Crimm, Mom With Cancer, Refuses Chemotherapy And Dies To Save Unborn Daughter (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/17/11 09:59 AM ET Updated: 12/16/11 05:12 AM ET

When Stacie Crimm found out that she had finally gotten pregnant at 41, she was overjoyed. So overjoyed that she knew exactly what to do when faced with the decision of whether to save her life or her unborn baby's, newsok.com reports.

After she was diagnosed with neck cancer, Crimm decided to refuse chemotherapy. The heroic mom survived long enough to deliver her 2-pound, 1 ounce daughter, Dottie Mae, and hold the baby in her arms, just once.

“This baby was everything she had in this world," Crimson's brother, Ray Phillips told the news outlet.

Some people are trying to make what she did the law.

What she did in her life and death was her choice, and it should be the same for any other woman and her family.

I need some facts before I go calling someone a "hero". Did this woman get pregnant knowing she had cancer? Did this woman, knowing she had cancer and was going to die, get pregnant on purpose? If so, I can not think of a more selfish thing to do. Did she think she was so important that the world would shrivel up and die along with her if she did not procreate? If, on the other hand, it was an unplanned pregnancy by a woman who did not know she was dying of cancer, then praise away.

Rest in Peace dear lady. You have given the epitamy of what it means to be a mother. Dottie May I am sure will be well taken of till she grows up and is told what a great sacrifice her mother made.

Why does every story here have to turn political?==It is just a beautiful story of a mothers love--May she rest in peace and may that baby have a long and healthy life--end of story

What a wonderful woman, especially when a selfish person would choose her own life over that of a little baby. May she RIP, and a crown of glory be upon her.

This is really a big to do about nothing. She was going to die anyways, so she made the choice not to take drugs to prolong her life so the fetus could be safely born. It's not a Pro Life story. You people are making it out to sound like she did not take the treatment that would have saved her life so the fetus would live. That's not what happened. She was going to die. Yes it's great the baby is going to be OK and has family to care for it and love it. And very sad think that the mother died. but it's not Pro Life..

Moses 123, I see the lunatic fringe is out, truth really hurts don't it..you are a foolish joke, you have my pity.

Willowraven you are clearly the lunatic fringe. This is a beautiful story and the best you can do is play the role of the sad synic. Please do us all a favor and jump off the highest building.

For anyone who is pro-choice, please remember that this is what we've fought for and are still fighting for, the ability to make our own choices, not have them dictated to us by the government. Stacie chose to have her baby knowing that it would very well mean the end of her own life. As a mother, I'd willingly give up my life for any of my children. However, if faced with the choices Stacie had, especially once I already had young children, I don't know what I would have done. I wouldn't want to have to make the decision that she did but I certainly respect her right to do so.

No greater love... May she find the peace and reward she so richly deserves.

This story is sad in so many ways.

Some of the comments are sadder still.

It was her choice.

I don't begrudge her that.

I also wouldn't have begrudged any woman attempting to save her own life with chemo, even if the odds were slim (as they seemed to be in her case).

We're forced to make decisions in life. So we try to make the best ones for ourselves.

Sadly, I've seen commenters on this page saying that women are evil if they choose to try and save their own life.

Women's lives do have meaning beyond their ability to give birth.

Dead women--particularly dead mothers--garner a hell of a lot of lip service with a certain crowd. It's disturbing.

Why would you want to have a baby so badly that you leave it in this world and die to give it life? I guess I don't get it - to leave the baby behind for her mother to raise? If she was in her 40's, the mom has to be in her 60's. I must be missing something.

That you are, Dannette. Even I can't imagine that i understand a love so big.
02:33 PM on 10/19/2011
Maybe what people are missing in this story is a love so great that it transcends selfishness and conditions and is more than willing to sacrifice their own life to give life to one who has more of it to look forward to.

There are people posting about abortion rights that use different names to post their anti women agenda. I've received several of these but I am too old and too honest to care. If you are one of these creeps get thee away from us Satan! That isn't much of a threat because I don't believe in some ancient mystical being I choose God instead.

I will remeber this story for the rest of my life. Even though this baby will never know her mom here on earth, she will always know her love.

This is the most sad and touching story.....rest in peace sweet Stacie.
