Obama To Speak At MLK Memorial Dedication

Martin Luther King Jr Memorial

10/16/11 06:37 AM ET   AP

WASHINGTON -- Five years after then-Sen. Barack Obama spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for a monument to Martin Luther King Jr., President Obama will speak at its dedication.

Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha made a surprise visit to the memorial to the slain civil rights leader Friday evening.

The president and first lady will host a White House reception for the King family and members of the civil rights community in the afternoon after Sunday's ceremony.

The dedication of the memorial on the National Mall was originally scheduled for August, but was postponed after Hurricane Irene swept through the Washington region with high winds and heavy rain.

One would think that Huff Post would have a story about Obama sending US troops into combat in Uganda and the Sudan. Congress must stop his misuse of the military, and if there is a US media that should at least mention it. Troops to fight rebels in Uganda. Does anyone remember that outrage of sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan? We are now what we used to hate. How do I go on as a Dem when my President has become everything we used to oppose?

Sending US military to help capture a warlord who tortures, rapes women and enlist children as fighters seem reasonable and somewhat noble mission for US military. 200 soldiers will make a huge in the lives of millions of African women in that region.

Yet another campaign speech by Obama. If this runs on any TV network for more than 15 seconds, he should be billed at the maximun rate per minute and all other Presidential candidates given equal time during the same time period.

One has to wonder why, every time the president dares to open his mouth, the right feels that he is making a "campaign speech." Clearly, to them, this president is held to an entirely different standard than any president in the past....

I like the statue of The King in downtown Memphis a lot better. We always remember to celebrate The King's birthday on January 8.

To really understand Hermain Cain, you would have to attempt a comparison with Dr. King, and there is no reasonable comparison between a well healed, pro establishment character such as the Pizzaman, and the reflective and courageous individual that MLK was. In the long run, it will be Dr. King who has statues built to commemorate his sacrifices, while Cain will be represented by empty pizza boxs.

Obama is no MLK he is no Reagan He us no Eisenhower or Truman he is Obama and will live that legacy of the president who made thing much worse by his actions . He has increased the racial divide more than I have seen in the past 20 years he has increased the social divide more than the last 40 years and the divide of the class farther than the last 60 years. Obama and his few supporters in the senate and congress are the biggest blockers in this nation stopping all movement forward and taking us back to a time of hate and discontent. Reid alone is holding back bills to get America working Pelosi is siding with people that are protesting the very thing that made her rich all in the name of votes, None of these people are for the people they are for themselves and securing their fortunes and future. MLK would be this first to condemn these actions. Obama is the worst thing to happen to America in a very long time.

If they were bestowing bouquets on Brother Al Pres. Obama could speak, not if they're honoring this great man. They have nothing in common. One embraced nonviolence. The other embraces radicals.

If the man was alive today he would be on the opposite side of where Obama and the democrats stand. His values at the time would be considered republican views by todays standard. I know liberals will have a hard time accepting that and even a harder time admitting that but is the truth. The only reason discrimination stays prevailent today because people want to use it as an excuse. Mr King would demonize affirmintive action calling it the easy way out because it doesnt treat people all the same and reward on merit but reward on a persons skin color.

Dr. King was a Republican, the democrats like to think that he was a democrat, but his views, and the dream he had for the black citizens was Republican. People forget that the KKK was the democrats..........the democrat party has been hijacked by the left, and the elite Repubics....are nothing but RHINOS.

I just watched the showing of the "I Have a Dream" speech at the memorial dedication. I remember when brother King delivered the speech on the Mall in 1963. I find it amazing how that moment in the 60's applies to what is happening today. The movement needs to find a leader in the spirit of Dr. King to take the movement forward. It is my hope that that person is found soon. Let us ALL join hands and march in the bright light of "The Dream" for justice. "The Dream" is alive and well and continues it's journey to the Promised Land.
