Chicago Bear Devin Hester Slapped At Suburban Chicago Casino

Devin Hester Slapped At Des Plaines Casino

A man was arrested Friday after he allegedly slapped Chicago Bears wide receiver Devin Hester in the back of his head at Rivers Casino in Des Plaines.

Daniel Rago, 52, of the 200 block of Wille Street in Mount Prospect, allegedly came up behind Hester while he was in a cash transaction line about 10:40 p.m. Friday, TribLocal reports. Rago reportedly walked away immediately after slapping the football player.

When Hester alerted casino security, Rago was escorted to a holding area and arrested.

Des Plaines Police Chief Jim Prandini said Tuesday that "there was no incident" between the two men before the slap, which was caught on a casino surveillance camera, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Rago, charged with one misdemeanor count of battery, has not given a reason for hitting Hester, though, the Sun-Times notes, he reportedly told Prandini he "had been drinking."

Hester's agent Eugene Parker said his client "did the right thing and showed great restraint in an unfortunate situation," according to NBC Sports.

Rago's bond was set at $1,000, the Daily Herald reports. He will be in court on Dec. 1 and could face a jail term of up to one year or a $2,500 if convicted of the battery charge. He has also been banned from Rivers Casino.
