Glasgow Scotland Gets Tourism Boost From Brad Pitt

Glasgow, Scotland is outshining the country's capital of Edinburgh when it comes to tourist popularity. It seems Glasgow has become a hotspot in Scotland thanks to a visit by Brad Pitt, reports the Daily Mail.

Brad Pitt stayed in town in August while shooting parts of his new movie "World War Z." The location manager for the zombie-movie told the BBC that "Glasgow had been chosen because of its architecture, wide roads and grid layout."

According to the Daily Mail, Glasgow has filled more hotel rooms than Edinburgh so far this year.

In August, discount hotel booking website LateRooms.com pointed out that Glasgow was seeing a surge in room reservations in advance of Pitt's arrival.

'It is testament to Glasgow's strength and appeal as a short break destination and for major events, conferences and large-scale movie productions, that the city is more than holding its own," Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, told the Daily Mail.

Of course, the idea of celebrity-linked locales as tourist destinations is nothing new. Earlier this month Steve Jobs' childhood home was visited by well-wishers after the Apple founder's death. And, in July, the New York City townhouse once inhabited by former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn became a destination for French tourists to the city.
