Marco Fabian Goal Celebration: Chivas Midfielder Simulates Execution (VIDEO)

Star Midfielder Simulates Execution During Goal Celebration

Mexican midfielder Marco Fabian scored a hat trick for Chivas against Tecos in a match in the Mexican Primera Division on Saturday. The scoring feat should have guaranteed that it was a triumphant night for the 22-year-old who made his debut on the Mexican National team earlier this summer, but a particularly distasteful goal celebration was all anyone could talk about after the match. After his second goal, Fabian pantomimed the execution of teammate Alberto Medina, using his finger as a gun and pointing it at Medina's forehead.

Considering that Mexico has been riven by drug violence in recent years, many Mexicans were outraged by the celebration. With rival drug cartels fighting amongst themselves while also battling the state, the press and the general populace, thousands have died during the protracted violence.

“The players who participated in this celebration will be called to account because they are role model for children and youth of our country,” a Chivas spokesman said in a statement.

Silkeborg's Bajram Fetai and his teammates made a similar goal celebration during a game in the Danish Superliga in April 2010, but they didn't face any consequences.
