Naomi Wolf, Feminist Author, Cuffed At Occupy Wall Street Protest

10/19/11 12:36 AM ET   AP

NEW YORK -- Feminist author Naomi Wolf has been taken into custody by police at an anti-corporate greed protest outside an award ceremony held to honor New York's governor.

Wolf and a companion were handcuffed outside Skylight Studios in Manhattan where Gov. Andrew Cuomo was to accept the "Game Changer of the Year Award" from The Huffington Post.

She was detained after ignoring police warnings to stay off the street in front of the building where the awards ceremony was being held and where a crowd of about 50 Occupy Wall Street protesters were rallying.

Charges Wolf might face were unclear. Most people detained during the protests have been arrested on misdemeanors.

Wolf is a political activist and author of the best-selling book "The Beauty Myth." She also blogs for The Huffington Post.

She is Right, in her case Beauty is a Myth !

OWS stands for "No More DEBT Economy" !

DEBT = SLAVERY

DEMS and GOP promise more SLAVERY, MORE DEBTS.

Vote Tea Party, they will actually say "No" ! Mother was good at saying, "No" !

Thanks, Mom !

Then you are obviously deluded. Let me spell it out for you. IT WAS NOT GOVERNMENT DEBT THAT CAUSED THE FINANCIAL CRISIS; IT WAS CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR BY WALL STREET AND THE BIG BANKS THAT CAUSED IT. The Right wingers/corporations/wall street are using the debt issue to DISTRACT YOU from their criminal behavior. Read: Griftopia by Matt Taibbi and open your eyes to the truth.

I'm totally with you here.
Up to the tea party thing, unsure about that.
Both parties are tied to the private debt-based system of money creation(fractional-reserve banking) where we can't have any money unless we have more debt.
Both parties use that system as the source of their power.
And, THAT is the problem.

But, seriously now, frank, how does the tea party propose to do away with the debt-based money system?
I mean I'm totally serious here.

Because, as far as I know, there is only ONE proposal to do away with the private debt-based system of money operated by the private Fed, and that is the proposal of Congr. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio.

His National Emergency Employment Defense(NEED) Act of 2011 was introduced about a money ago as H.R. 2990.
http://www.monetary.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/HR-2990.pdf

Please have a read and let me know what you think.
It ends all this debt-slavery BS - for real.

Or, what do y'all have in mind?
Thanks to my Mom too.

The streets are cleaner than when the occupation began in our city. We are picking up cigarette butts, plenty left by those not even identified with the movement, including observers. In addition, we are sorting city garbage and recyclables, normally a city job for which one is paid. We are at it because we believe in being good citizens. The right wing will try to discredit us, probably continually, because it is easier for them to do that than actually address the fundamental issues we are raising. After all, they might have to give up corporate entitlements.

I like the violent sign that says kill or be killed. They are peeing in the streets, defacating on cars, smoking weed, starting fights and carrying around anti semetic signs. Too much time on their hands. Go look for a job.

ycr is really talking about the TP. Just doesn't really realize it. All those guns at political events? TPers. All those threats of guns at political events? TPers. All those "Second Amendment remedies" threats? TPers. But, guns and violence and threats of violence are FAR more preferable to anecdotes about peeing in the streets. Anti-semitic signs? Only from right wing shills trying to foment crap. From the people I know, there's a damn lot of people of the Jewish faith who are occupying Wall Street in protest. Sidelight - nice stereotyping of "moneylenders". Paulson was a Christian Scientist. Dimon's of Greek descent. Vikram Pandit? From India. Richard Parsons, CEO of Citi? African-American.

In Wolf's statement, she was leaving the Huffpost event she heard police giving ocw protestors commands based on lies... in other words, the police were giving unlawful orders.

Who arrests the cops in this country when they place themselves above the law before the poeple? In a country where lying by government is highly revered?

Wolf's Statement in Facebook:

"The protesters were being told that they needed to leave the sidewalk outside of the Huffington Post event because 'Huffington Post had a permit' to control the use of the sidewalk. I have a chapter in Give Me Liberty on NYC [on] permits so I knew that could not be accurate. Sidewalks are public spaces and can't be leased by private entities. I asked for a copy of the permit," she wrote. "Some press reports say that I was arrested because I ignored police warnings to get off the sidewalk or that I was arrested for using a megaphone without a permit. Both of these are untrue. I told the protesters that the NYC permit requirement that states that using a megaphone is illegal."

So, she was leaving the event with "the beautiful people" who I am sure she is not in favor with anymore, judging by this story and then decides to hob-nob with the protesters? I don't think you can have it both ways.

This is her story.

She was invited to a HuffPost gala and talked to the protestors before and after. The whiteshirt cops were giving unlawful orders so she decided to stand up for her rights and got arrested for it.

This is the state of affairs in America today because people have forgotten that they are actually supposed to have rights and the power of the state does not supercede these rights. Its a principle thing.

I'm not sure what the objection is.

It's incredibly embarrassing that some people actually compared the treatment of these people to those protesters in the Arab spring.

They may have legitimate grievances, but they really should get off their high horse.

On Jezebel there is a video posted. She did not ignore police or disobey them, according to her statements. She corrected information they were giving protestors about using bullhorns and was arrested for speaking up in their defense. You'd think on HP they could get it right. Thanks AOL.

Naomi Wolf: how I was arrested at Occupy Wall Street

Arresting a middle-aged writer in an evening gown for peaceable conduct is a far cry from when America was a free republic

HufP0 likes to play both sides of the coin. They write articles in support of OWS while holding events to celebrate the 1% (which HufP0-AOL is a part of). I hope they paid for Naomi's bail.
