Last year, Julia Fordham, a Britishsinger-songwriter, met a woman whose son was serving in Afghanistan. Fordham was "so stunned and moved to hear her talking about how hard it is, not knowing where or how your loved one is and literally hoping they are going to come home alive and in one piece," she wrote later on her blog As it happened, she was working on an album with Paul Reiser, the comedian, and the conversation turned into the song "Unsung Hero."
