Alec Baldwin Visits Occupy Wall Street, Talks Federal Reserve

A longtime political commentator and potential candidate himself, Alec Baldwin paid a visit to Occupy Wall Street on Tuesday night.

The "30 Rock" star and newly minted podcaster, Baldwin has, during the protesters' occupation of Wall Street, advocated for tighter bank regulations and more strict enforcement of those regulations. Arriving around midnight, he tweeted at 1:37, "My thanks 2 Aaron from Brooklyn and Sean from Winnipeg for this evening's OWS tutorial. My first. A lot of dedicated people at #ZuccottiPark."

He sent out a series of tweets following his departure, saying, "OWS needs to coalesce around some legislative policy. The 'occupy' strategy may be an effective one. But what can each entity agree on?" and "Campaign finance reform remains the linchpin of our democracy's many problems."

Baldwin was greeted by both fans and detractors, who cited his work as a spokesperson for Capital One Bank. He tweeted on the issue, writing, "I donated all of my fee from Capital One 2 arts charities. They have been gr8 partners in my support of the arts." The star then followed that defense of banks' existence, saying, "We need a healthy banking system in this country. We need strong capital markets. What is missing are regulations with teeth."

At the event, he was greeted by a Ron Paul supporter who grilled him on the Federal Reserve, asking Baldwin whether he'd like to see it eliminated. The actor handled the questions deftly, as you can see below.

I used to respect this man both as an actor and a possible politico. But now that he's lowered himself to suck up to the loathsome losers occupying public property with their Woodstock-wannabee ways (albeit Woodstock had a message). They are all unemployed not because they have to be, but because they feel entitled to be. They don't support corporations, but yet they all have the newest I-Crap, I didn't see Steve Jobs lowering his prices or naming these cry-babies in his will! They are not entitled to anything but to go running home to their parents and to take a shower, shave, and hit the effing pavement to start looking for a job instead of stinking up my city! How dare you, Mr. Baldwin, try and get PR off of this for your own personal gain. Hey, I guess he really is a politician now!

I heard the audio interview yesterday on Alex Bennett's show.. First I agree with you Alec B., I wouldn't take steps on FED without learning more, but I would be willing right now, to bring them under the dept of the treasury and do a FULL AUDIT, something that has NEVER been done in its history.
But I have a real bone to pick with you- Capitalism- you defended it greatly yesterday but you see Alec - what we have isn't a pure capitalism structure- why? By definition capitalism means that some companies FAIL- if they aren't running properly - THEY FAIL.. But over the past 30 years we haven't allowed that with big banks, corporations, large industry.. We bail them out over and over again.. Next you defended capitalism because - money needs to flow in our economy- Alec- here again - IT'S NOT flowing, it is being horded.. This is why we have protesters down on Wall St... NOT because we seek to end capitalism but because we want it to function correctly... Like it use to before the 80's....

How in the world does Alec Baldwin expect to make headlines with a reasonable, cogent, informed response like that one?

Another Hollywood Limousine Liberal on the soapbox preaching. Dont stand there and preach against a system that you used to create your own personal wealth.

SN, if the rich were taxed as much as they were when the potus you proudly displayed, we may be a tad bit better of than we are now. Meanwhile use your money and time to buy a clue.

I got a goal for you:

"Constitutional Amendment that outlaws political lobbying"

Getting money out of politics is what most of this comes down to. Even the wealth inequities are a result of laws being written that benefit only a few.

We have to change the way laws are written so that the power of money does not trump the will of the people.

This movement needs a cohesive message. Until then, celebs need to stay away because they make this cause appear to be nothing but hipsters on a rant.

I very much agree. Mr. Baldwin could of done the movement more Justice by being better informed pror to a visit. It just appeared to selfserving, and this is truely to Serious of a matter anyone's Hollywood career.

So? The man says that he wants tighter regulations, the same thing the protesters want. I fail to see the hypocrisy.
