Apple Creates Steve Jobs Tribute Featuring Fans' Remembrances

Apple Creates New Steve Jobs Tribute

When Apple co-founder Steve Jobs died on October 5, Apple scrapped its usual website design to feature a full-page, black and white photo of Jobs.

Two weeks later, that tribute is still in place, but with a twist: Apple has replaced Jobs' obituary with a digital wall of remembrances showcasing comments from users about Jobs' legacy.

The messages featured on the site, titled "Remembering Steve," were sent by more than a million people to an email address Apple set up after Jobs' death as a way for individuals to write to the company with their reflections. The company is encouraging people more people to share their remembrances by emailing rememberingsteve@apple.com.

The design of the site embodies Apple's trademark simplicity: there are no pictures and the page is almost entirely colorless, displaying the messages in black text against a white background.

"Over a million people from all over the world have shared their memories, thoughts, and feelings about Steve," Apple writes on "Remembering Steve." "One thing they all have in common — from personal friends to colleagues to owners of Apple products — is how they’ve been touched by his passion and creativity."

In the messages, people give thanks for Jobs' innovations, offer their condolences to his family, and reflect on what Apple's products, and Jobs' contributions, have meant to them.

"Perhaps the greatest man to have ever lived. I wish you all the best and hope that there will always be 'One more thing,'" wrote one person, identified only as John.

"This is a man who has made me who I am today," wrote Nicole. "The creations for which Steve and APPLE have introduced to the world, are something that will change the face of technology forever. I have been working on APPLE computers all my life and have grown to appreciate what it has done for me and my family."

"I feel honored to have lived in the era of Steve Jobs- a visionary for our times," wrote another individual.

Apple will be hosting a company-wide celebration of Jobs' life on Wednesday, October 19 and will temporarily close Apple stores to allow employees to watch a live-stream of the event, which will be hosted at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino.

Apple fans have created makeshift memorials outside of Apple stores around the world that honor Jobs' legacy and memory. See photos of these tributes below:
