Celebrities In McDonalds Commercials Before They Were Stars (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/19/11 03:27 PM ET   Updated: 12/19/11 05:12 AM ET

With the news Monday that McDonalds was developing and expanding its own in-restaurant television network, it got us thinking about what the channel should show. More specifically, we began to reminisce about some of the quirkiest, vintage commercials for the fast food joint. And then, that got us thinking about some of the surprising celebrity cameos in some of those old commercials.

Starring in advertisements is one of the many ways that actors and actresses can break into show business, and landing a McD's spot offers major exposure. It can't be easy, what with all the screen testing and national surveying they do, but for these stars, it was certainly well worth the effort. Check out some of our favorite below, and let us know if you have other great ones to suggest.

I'm showing my age here, but I believe that John Amos (James on Good Times, 1970s) and Anson Williams (Potsie on Happy Days, 1970s) starred in ads in...the early 1970s.

On a different category, Gail O'Grady (NYPD Blue) starred with Michael J. Fox in a (memorable) Pepsi commercial.

Interesting to see how actors' careers have taken off after commercial spots.
