Elvis Costello Sings 'Sesame Street' Duet With Elmo (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/19/11 11:58 PM ET Updated: 12/19/11 05:12 AM ET

It's been over three decades since Elvis Costello released his debut record "My Aim is True," which Pitchfork calls the 80th best album of all time. But Elvis has revamped the lyrics of one of the album's hit songs for the "Sesame Street" crowd in a duet with Elmo -- and it's awesome.

Looking trim, Costello parodies the lyrics to "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes," a single off Costello's first album, "My Aim is True." In the "Sesame Street" version, Costello expresses his desire to count to ten, but cannot -- because alas, "The Monster Went and Ate [His] Red 2." Elmo joins him as a fellow Angry Young Monster, wearing the signature Costello fedora, spectacles and clothing style.

We hope Costello shows up with The Imposters soon to sing another educational song from his legendary discography.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article stated that Nick Lowe wrote "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes." While Lowe produced the album "My Aim is True," Costello wrote that song.

In this clip, Elvis Costello reminds me of when my grandfather suddenly lost a lot of weight before he went into the nursing home and passed away.

His record with Burt Bacharach is fantastic!!! Elmo is Okay, but something with Mr. Snuffleupagus would have been way more intense. : )

Nick Lowe did not write this song. You must be thinking of that other parenthese'd title: "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding?"

I double checked my album and cd, and they both read, "All songs written by Elvis Costello".

I even went to allmusic.com...Elvis still wrote it.

Lowe produced the album, so maybe that's where the confusion lies.

Great segment from Elvis. My 18 month old Grandson approves too.

Very cute. Wonderful for his kids. But, why does Elvis insist on looking like an old man who feeds pigeons in the park?

Hmmm... what makes you think Elvis isn't the old man feeding pigeons in the park?

Because he's not an old man. He's not even 60 years old.

He and Diane Krall have two four-year old twins. Coincidence?
Still adorable though.
