Rick Santorum Pledges To Defund Contraception, 'Die On That Hill' Fighting Same-Sex Marriage

Rick Santorum Contraception

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 10/19/11 07:02 PM ET Updated: 12/19/11 05:12 AM ET

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum recently pledged to "die on that hill" fighting against same-sex marriage, and made a similar vow to repeal all federal funding for contraception because it is "a license to do things in a sexual realm."

Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, made the claims during an interview with CaffeinatedThoughts.com editor Shane Vander Hart, according to Think Progress. He declared that no other president had previously discussed "the dangers of contraception" and said that "sex is supposed to be within marriage" and "special."

He went on to describe "the battle" on same-sex marriage, claiming that allowing gay marriage would shake "the very foundation of our country, the family, what the family structure is going to look like."

"I'll die on that hill," Santorum said, pledging to fight for a federal ban on same-sex marriage.

This isn't the first time Santorum has spoken out against non-traditional families. The Huffington Post's Laura Bassett reports that Santorum recently said the GOP's strategy for eliminating the "Democratic advantage" should be to marry off single mothers who "look to the government for help" and focus on building "two-parent families."

"Look at the political base of the Democratic Party: It is single mothers who run a household," he told Tony Perkins, president of the Christian conservative think tank Family Research Council. "Why? Because it's so tough economically that they look to the government for help and therefore they're going to vote. So if you want to reduce the Democratic advantage, what you want to do is build two parent families, you eliminate that desire for government."

Santorum is also notorious for his opposition to same-sex marriage. He has hit other GOP 2012 hopefuls for not supporting a federal "uniform definition of marriage" and has suggested that the "breakdown of the American family" wrecked the economy.

Why is this guy so nosy about other people's sex? He's kinda creepy.

So many Americans are having sex as we speak. Stop them, Rick! Clearly THAT is our country's biggest problem. Not banks, jobs, manufacturing, inflation, and gas prices.

In others words, lets kill off anyone who depends on the government, including seniors and vets...... Let's just peel back the onion and call it what it is..... There's a special place for these hypocritical bigots..

"I'll die on that hill."

Don't tease us, Rick.

So, now we know, according to Santorum's rhetoric, it is all the single mothers cause the 'big' Democratic government. That means their must have been a horrific population explosion by single mothers whenever Democrats were in the WH. Will there be mandated marriage in Santorum's fantasy theocracy?

Why so much hate? Why so much discussion on the issue of gay marriage? Countries with better divorce rate, less violence, more education have legalized gay marriage and their country/culture/society hasn't collapsed. As a heterosexual woman, born and living in a conservative/religious third country, I am able to support this issue why cant more educated Americans? Why is America so scared of the GLBTQ population?

They simply want to control the rest of the country-dominionism is their religion. There is no more invasive, radical group against freedom in this country.
04:27 PM on 10/23/2011
It's not the majority of the population that is scared of the GLBT community - it is those in power.....certain church leaders and conservative Republicans to begin with......that fear losing their influence, their power and thus their wealth. Also the narrow mind can't conceive of the notion that they might be wrong - it shakes their entire world! If you don't have anyone to hate, then it is much harder to feel superior.

Santorum is scum and a pitiful idiot.

Hey Santorum, get a real religion, with love, compassion, and tolerance.

He doesn't speak in factual context on just about any topic. Everything that dribbles out of his mouth is his own strange opinion. Anyone who would bring a dead baby home to meet its siblings for closure has some serious problems. This guy is straight out of a Twilight Zone episode.

I am beginning to think that Mr Santorum may be one of the few people who truly has NEVER seen himself naked. And if he did, it was undoubtedly an accident which must have scarred him for life. He is so uptight on all things sexual that I find him unqualified to even speak in the general direction of human sexuality on any level.

Will someone please tell him that peoples sexuality has absolutely NOTHING to do with being POTUS. If he is so concerned with sex, he should have become an OB/GYN.
04:28 PM on 10/23/2011
With his narrow point of view, he couldn't make a living being an ob/gyn!!!!! LOL

We would be obliged if he would fulfill his pledge presently. It matters not what hill he does it on, just as long has he dies - or at least disappears from the public scene - immediately.

This guy would be a joke if what he said weren't so disturbing and intrusive. If the GOP is supposedly so smaller government, why is the GOP in such a hurry to invade the wombs, bedrooms, and homes of American citizens? Santorum is dangerous to the US and dangerous to Pennsylvania.

Pity Santorum. He is a victim of brainwashing. Whether its internalized oppression, or simply him actually thinking he's the white knight fighting a holy crusade, he's not thinking rationally. He's incapable of it. It doesn't mean his words and, if elected, policies, aren't horrible and harmful, but he's not doing it of his own choosing. He's just another monster created by hijacked Christianity.

I hope he gets a wake up call one day, or at least lives long enough to see this country reject his hate completely, and not fall victim to Divine Retribution, but rather prosper as a more tolerant nation.
