Tokidoki Barbie Features Tattoos, Pink Hair (PHOTOS)

Barbie has been an astronaut, a doctor, a teacher and a princess a thousand times over. But a tattoo artist?

Tokidoki's new Barbie could be one, given the tats she sports. The inked doll, who also comes with a black skull-and-bones tee shirt, leopard leggings and a pale pink bob, is the result of Barbie's collaboration with Simone Legno of the Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand Tokidoki.

The doll, currently retailing for $50, is described on Barbie's website thusly:

tokidoki® Barbie® doll is always ready for cutting-edge fashion! She pops on a pink miniskirt, logo leggings and black top with signature skull heart and bones, carries a large bag from the brand, then adds bracelets, a belt, and sky-high sparkly silvery shoes! This funky fashionista features trendy tattoos and a pink bob. With cactus friend, Bastardino, by her side, she’s ready for fun in fashion-forward form!

The tattoos are basically all we notice when we look at the doll (is it bad that leopard leggings don't even shock us anymore?).

The tats are not exactly hipster, arm-sleeve tattoos, and they're not exactly of the subtle, tramp stamp variety. Instead they climb up the doll's skinny plastic neck like on a trucker or pirate -- but, like a true Barbie doll, at least they are pink.

We must also note that the outfit reminds us quite a lot of Avril Lavigne's Abbey Dawn line, which recently got its own show at New York Fashion Week. So that's something.

Check out pics of the tattooed Barbie below -- it might be the only glimpse you'll get, considering the dolls are entirely sold out.

A few fun facts,
Bastardino is an ITALIAN name. It means little cutie or something like that. TokiDoki is run by an ITALIAN. Research please, and stop being so American.
Also, this is a COLLECTORS item. Only 7400 were made and only 7400 will probably come out this month too. What children are going to get this barbie when they're selling on Amazon right now for 500$?
Ease up, US.

AND she's wearing sky high heels that are actually proven to cause health issues with the feet, calves and hamstrings? Oh, right. Heels aren't a problem because heels are mainstream. This has nothing to do about setting bad examples. It has to do with parents having a knee jerk reaction to their child being exposed (hypothetically anyway, seeing as you can't get the doll in stores) to anything not totally mainstreamed, as if what's-popular-is-right and what's-right-is-popular is a totally logical way to think.

Not only do I LOVE the TokiDoki Barbie (and all the products sold at Sephora!) but I pre-ordered her AND I was her for Halloween this year. It was awesome to dress up as her, EVERY detail. My husband is an artist and he hand-drew every single one of her tattoos on me with colored eye-liner pencils. Was THE BEST costume EVER! I had SO much fun!

Love this Barbie! I think she has so much personality and it encourages to be and think different.

I have no problem with this Barbie, she is more modern now than she has ever been. Besides that, this is what my barbies always turned out looking like once I was done "styling" them. If you have a problem with Barbie no longer being the stepford wife, don't buy it.I never liked the message she gave anyhow, that to be popular, or important you had to be a tall thin blonde wearing the latest fashion....
Simple solution. Don't buy it if you don't want your child to play with it, don't buy it.

Its Barbie. Barbie has kept up with the times. Its not like you HAVE to buy the doll. I would imagine it is being made for the older people who collect. Even so maybe some little girl out there has a mom with tattoos. Not everyone looks or dresses alike. I say Go Barbie! She looks wonderful. I think it is very tastefully done!

I dont see a problem with the tattoos, it helps teach children tolerance of people of all sorts of lifestyles. My children put on fake temporary tattoos, but I dont see people getting huffy about the fact that there is such a thing as fake tattoos! I do have an issue with the pets name though! Bastardino? Like my 14 year old just said, if you dont like it, dont buy it. No one is forcing ANYONE to purchase ANYTHING that they dont agree with! Ok, so an adult doll has tattoos now, should we hide our children from human adults with tattoos or piercings? If the answer is yes, then I guess my children should be taken from me since I have my ears pierced and my nose pierced and my husband has an eyebrow pierced and an ear pierced. My step dad has tattoos, and I know other people with tattoos and piercings that are GREAT around my children, all I would allow around my children because they are wonderful people!

There is nothing wrong with it Barbie is simply embracing all walks of llife and one should not have preconcived notions or sterotypes about people who look differently than you.I would Buy it for my child. I bet if Ken had a tarroo this wouldn't even be a discussion.

I love it! I rather my daughter have a barbie with pink hair and tattoos than one with a belly shirt and mini skirt anyday!

This is one of the cutest barbies I have ever seen! :) I like her a lot. I only wish I had a little girl to buy her for... I have all boys.

This is not the first Barbie to come out with tatoos. About 13 years ago there was one that had butterfly tats on her. I bought it for a friend of mine and covered over the label to make it say "Hoochie Mama" Barbie. Nope, would not buy it even if I had a daughter to give it to.

I have tattoos. I am a college professor and published author, not a "hoochie mama." I hope someday you will show compassion and curiosity and actually speak to a tattooed woman.

Bastardino? Really? That the best they could do for the pet's name? On the other hand, I have no problem with the Barbie...she's actually covered up more than usual :-)
