Tristane Banon: Dominique Strauss-Kahn Civil Suit Plan Dropped

PARIS -- A French writer whose claim that Dominique Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her in 2003 was dropped by prosecutors says she won't file a civil suit against the former IMF head and one-time French presidential hopeful.

Tristane Banon says she's "always said that I'd file a civil suit only if my status as a victim was not recognized."

French prosecutors last week dropped their criminal probe into Banon's attempted rape claim, but said that Strauss-Kahn admitted during questioning to actions that qualify for the lesser charge of sexual assault.

Speaking Wednesday on French TV channel Canal+, Banon said the prosecutor had recognized her as a victim of sexual assault, but the case couldn't be pursued because the three-year statute of limitations on sexual assault had expired.

DSK probably threatened to ruin her life or conveyed subtle intimidation...and made it known that he would make her spend all her money to pursue the case. That's how these human devils keep getting away with raping -- intimidation and the rich can always outspend the victim

When this case broke several months ago, I came to DSK's defense because I did not like the lynch mob atmosphere in the US and in these threads. I did not argue that the French economist and politician was innocent, but simply that his guilt was far from established! But it is clear that DSK is no angel and that he will continue to see sexual related charges against him in the future.

Ms Banon's decision to drop the case makes sense from her viewpoint. After all, she can claim victory because the French court recognized that a sexual aggression took place although it refused to rule on rape, given the lack of evidence.

DSK tried to claim victory, but his fellow Socialists are shunning him. Some victory!

If any alliance of leftist parties returns to power next May, as looks probable, the man once (heavily) favored to become France's next president will be shunted aside by the new government. It is too bad that such a talented individual let his sexual obsessions get the better of him, but he is lucky he is not in jail.

I am no longer residing in France, but from reading the French press, I feel this case has changed in the country... for the better.

Banon’s money-grabbing plan has failed and her lawyer does not want to work pro bono any longer. Banon’s sexual favors arrangement is not enough for him anymore.
”She can find healing in the authorities statement", Koubbi suggested.
Banon is a sick person indeed. She should find satisfaction in ruining someone’s life and in getting her hard earned rather dirty 15 minutes of fame.
