Bruni gave birth to a girl around 8:00 yesterday. Giulia is Bruni's second child and her first with her husband, French president Nicolas Sarkozy.

Bruni released a statement on her official website, stating:

I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter Giulia.

On this happy occasion, my husband joins me in expressing our warmest thanks to all those of you who sent us these tokens of your kindness.

It cracks me up how news about the French first couple are always published in the style section.

I like it. Though, in English (and in French) it is spelled "Julia" and there are millions of people holding that name that nobody is congratulating for having an elegant name.

Giulia is a nice name but I prefer the sound of "Stormageddon."

Nice name. Where is Bruni's other child? Why is the first child never discussed in the media?
12:38 PM on 10/23/2011
I think that the first child's father is extremely opposed to his sun being constantly featured in the media as a prop to the famous step-father. He's being extremely protective. It's understandable. It's not because his mother married the President, that he should become a public figure himself at age 10.

I think Giulia's first car should be an Alfa Romeo! I could be wrong, but I think they (used to?) have a "Giulia" and recently came out with a "Giulietta."

It's good to know that there's at least someone out there with the decency not to make up some weird name.

Giulia.....that is Italian for Julia. That is a beautiful name, one we missed in the other article yesterday, as we speculated and suggested names.
