Death-Defying BASE Jumper, Christopher Brewer, Survives 900 Foot Fall (VIDEO)

At the 32nd Annual Bridge Day Celebration in Fayetteville, West Virginia, 100,000 onlookers gathered to watch the 750 BASE jumps allowed once a year. Expecting amazing aerial feats, bystanders were in for quite a shock when Christopher Brewer, 27, found himself without a fully-functioning parachute during his 900 foot BASE jump off of a bridge.

Outfitted in a wingsuit, Mr. Brewer was able to slow his fall enough to survive, despite hitting the water at nearly 80 mph. He remained conscious during the entire ordeal and sustained injuries to his pelvis, spine and lungs according to the Register Herald.

BASE jumping, already dangerous because of the limited time available to deploy a parachute, looks downright terrifying in the video above.

BASE is an acronym for buildings, antennas, spans (bridges), and earth (sites jumpers leap from) and wingsuits allow jumpers to glide in mid-air. The 'Bird Man' Jeb Corliss demonstrated wingsuit jumping in a spectacular jump through a cave in China last month.

Surprisingly only nine people sustained injuries that day at the New River Gorge.
