BRUSSELS — NATO officials say the alliance's governing body will meet Friday to decide to end the seven-month bombing campaign over Libya.

NATO's Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said after the latest developments on the battlefield – the death of leader Moammar Gadhafi – "that moment has now moved much closer."

He said the decision to terminate the airstrikes would be made in coordination with the U.N. and Libya's interim government.

Diplomats said Friday's meeting would decide when and how to wind up the operation.

A diplomat speaking on condition of anonymity said this could come in the next day or two if NATO's military commanders confirmed there was no more need for the operation to continue.
