Questions For Phil Donahue

I'm thrilled to have my husband, Phil Donahue, joining me for a LIVE chat on Mondays with Marlo! What questions do you have for Phil? Ask him anything you'd like to know about the economic or political climate, the art of the interview, Occupy Wall Street, making a marriage work, parenting, grandparenting, becoming a talk show host, and his current hobbies. Post them in the comment section below, and he'll answer as many as he can on Monday, October 24th, at 12:30 pm ET.

Phil Donahue has used the television talk show format he pioneered in 1967 to interview world leaders, celebrities, newsmakers and people from all walks of life. Over the last 29 years, Donahue has examined human behavior, focused national debates on political and social issues and has provided a democratic forum for presidential candidates. What began as a local program has made DONAHUE a household word and an American institution.

As host of Donahue, Mr. Donahue has presided over nearly 7,000 one-hour daily shows, many on-location broadcasts and several historic broadcasts from Russia, and was the first talk show to air on a regular basis there. Mr. Donahue has interviewed many prominent international figures from Nelson and Winnie Mandela to Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to Israel’s Ariel Sharon.

Phil Donahue and the Donahue show have been honored with 20 Daytime Emmy Awards, including nine for Outstanding Host; a George Foster Peabody Broadcasting Journalism Award for “sensitive, yet probing interviews on issues relevant to today’s society;” a “President’s Award” from the National Women’s Political Caucus; the first “Media Person of the Year Award” from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation; and with numerous other honors and awards from educational, religious and mental health organizations.

Phil Donahue resides in Westport, Connecticut. He is married to award-winning actress, television producer and activist Marlo Thomas. He is the father of five adult children from a previous marriage and has two grandchildren.
