Cha Du Ri Own Goal: Celtic Players Kicks Ball Past Own Goalkeeper In Match Against Rennes (VIDEO)

WATCH: Boneheaded Long-Distance Own Goal

What was Cha Du Ri thinking? That's the only question worth asking after watching this highlight. In the middle of the first half of Celtic's Europa League match against Rennes, Celtic defender Cha Du Ri scored an effortless go-ahead goal.. for the wrong team.

After the Rennes goalkeeper Benoît Costil cleared the ball deep into the opponent's zone, it appeared that Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster was in position to easily field it himself. But the 31-year-old Korean felt the need to inexplicably kick it back to Forster long distance, catching his own goalie off guard. The ball just barely made it past him and slowly trickled into the net to put Rennes up 1-0.

Fortunately for Cha Du Ri, Celtic scored in the 70th minute and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

"It would have been a real shame having played so well to lose a game with the goal we conceded," Celtic manager Lennon said after the match. "But credit to the players in the second half, we weathered a wee bit of a storm."
