Sarah Silverman's 'Live From N*****head' Comedy Fundraiser For NAACP

Sarah Silverman

First Posted: 10/21/11 10:39 AM ET Updated: 12/21/11 05:12 AM ET

Comedian and TV actress Sarah Silverman is set to thump Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry with a provocatively titled comedy show in his home state.

Silverman is marshaling fellow comics for a fund-raiser in Texas titled, "Live From N*****head: Stripping The Paint Off Of Good Ol' Fashioned Racism."

The title refers to the controversy over Perry's West Texas hunting campground where the candidate has entertained friends and supporters. The campground's former name, "Niggerhead," was painted on a rock at the entrance for many years.

Sarah is just like Chelsea Handler. They both make fun of everyone including themselves (Jewish). And in this case, it seems she's trying to remind us of the actual sign and association of this candidate. I for one am in no way offended.

Hey! In defense of Rick Perry---he's not a racist. In the debate he called Herman Cain "brutha" (I mean what presidential candidate HASN'T called another candidate "brutha" during a publicly televised event---I seem to remember Bush saying that to Al Gore), instead of "n---a". And I heard he has a best friend who's black....

Much as I despise, loathe, abhor and hate that word I see her point.
"This is a never-forget moment,” Silverman told Entertainment Weekly. “The show’s provocative name holds a mirror up to an ugliness that seems to have become yesterday’s news without having barely even made news.”
She plans to donate all proceeds to the NAACP.

Oh okay Rick Perry had the slogan painted on the rock in his hunting grounds because he feels so passionately about being a Ni**erhead. Yeah we get it Perry you are the product of your own racism.

I find Sarah particularly cringe-worthy and unfunny (and I love South Park and lots of other sometimes foul mouthed comedians as). Her career is pretty saggy and I guess she thinks she can use this to be "topical." Have at it..but it won't be something I'd attend or watch.

It's not that those good white Christian community-protecting TTTParty folk are anti-black, or anti-latin, or anti-asian, or anti-semitic, or anti-martian... they are simply xenophobic, and regard all who are not like themselves as they perceive themselves to be not "us" but "them" -- and they don't like them, any of us.

I'm jes' wonderin' if Eddie Murphy did a "Live From Auschwitz" benefit would it be considered as welcome. I doubt this post will see the light of day. But it just proves my point. Thank you moderators for your sterlin' abiltiy to judge all things with equability. Life.

If Hit.ler were running for POTUS and highlighting his antisem.itism by pointing it out would be very acceptable to this Jew.

Besides, a more apt comparison would be if Hit.ler's bunker known as Wolf's Lair was called or nicknamed Kikehead.

But, you did try to defend Perry and that's all that counts.

Hi Adjuster; Obviously this is what you "think." I am not and did not defend anyone? I think the title of her show is despicable and wondered who would holler I was bein' anti-Semitic. Perhaps I hit a nerve. By the by I would never and have never used the "K"-word. I find that equally despicable. But to each his own opinions. Right? Life.

Where is sistagirl "defending Perry"? You should read for understanding.
01:55 PM on 10/22/2011
No it wouldn't. Jews would attack Eddie Murphy. I came to write that first sentence, but you beat me to it.

Hi americaisracist; I guess what they say about "great minds think alike" is true. People are amazin' to me. We, myself included, have a penchant for seein' only what we want to see. But just because I prefer to ignore somethin' doesn't make it non-existant. O I know all the "Oom-galla-galla" people tell me about the advancements my people have made. Right? But the more things change, the more they remain the same. So what's changed? Thanks for commentin' my Brotha. Your moniker ain't nothin' but the TRUTH. Life.

Richard Pryor and the N Word.
After touring Kenya's national museum, Pryor sat in a hotel lobby full of what he described as "gorgeous black people, like everyplace else we'd been. The only people you saw were black. At the hotel, on television, in stores, on the street, in the newspapers, at restaurants, running the government, on advertisements. Everywhere."
That caused Pryor to say: "Jennifer. You know what? There are no n______ here. ... The people here, they still have their self-respect, their pride."
In "Pryor Convictions," Pryor said that he left Africa "regretting ever having uttered the word 'n_____' on a stage or off it. It was a wretched word. Its connotations weren't funny, even when people laughed.
"To this day I wish I'd never said the word. I felt its lameness. It was misunderstood by people. They didn't get what I was talking about. Neither did I. ... So I vowed never to say it again."

Too little too late. The damage was done. It infuriates me that Pryor used the word so freely in his everyday vocabulary and in his shows on a national stage. While admire that he came to regret his irresponsible use of the word, the damage had been done already and he helped spread the sanctioned use of that word by many in the black community which is now almost impossible to undo.

Also leading to those outside our community to recite the same lame complaint over and over again "black comedians use the word all the time, why can't I?!"

If anyone can make a night of comedy out of that special brand of racial hatred they have in Texas, it's Sarah Silverman.
Knock 'em to their knees!
