Rick Perry Answers Questions On Obama Birth Certificate

First Posted: 10/23/2011 12:09 pm Updated: 12/23/2011 4:12 am

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry walked a fine line when presented with questions about President Barack Obama's birth certificate -- which was released by the White House earlier this year -- in a new interview with Parade magazine published online.

When asked if he believes the president was born in the United States, the Texas governor said, "I have no reason to think otherwise." Pressed on the nature of his answer, Perry added, "Well, I don't have a definitive answer, because he's never seen my birth certificate."

Here's an excerpt of the subsequent exchange that went down on the birth certificate issue:

But you've seen his. I don't know. Have I?

You don't believe what's been released?
I don't know. I had dinner with Donald Trump the other night.

And?
That came up.

Perry said that Trump doesn't believe the document released by the White House is "real." Asked if he agrees with the sentiment, the Lone Star State Republican said, "I don't have any idea. It doesn't matter. He's the president of the United States. He's elected. It's a distractive issue."

Leading up to the release of Obama's "long form" birth certificate in April, Trump captured headlines and sparked controversy with his persistence in raising doubt over the president's birthplace.

Trump went as far to release his own official birth certificate. Upon the release of the president's birth certificate, Trump said that he was very "proud" of himself.

Let's see, in order to get a passport you have to provide a birth certificate. Obama had a passport as a child, so his mother cooked the books, concocted a conspiracy to illegally represent her son's birth so he could qualify 30 years later to be President of the U.S.? Yeah, that makes sense! And the moon doesn't really exist, someone painted a large picture of a moon and hung in the sky!

And some think that this clown has what it takes to be the President of the US. Maybe our country is in a death spiral.

How can you walk a fine line dredging up the most bizarre accusation in history. This is not walking a fine line.

This is equivalent to a bull in a china shop. Wreckless to say the least.

He must be looking for an exit strategy. This is a good one Rick.

Wow, wow wow now---WHO "dredged it up"? Not Perry, HE did not bring it up---the interviewer ASKED him, all HE did was answer the question and said NOTHING---LISTEN NOW. He said NOTHING against the President, only answered the question. Yet somehow (go figure) YOU talk about him "dredging up the most bizarre accusation in history--CAN YOU READ?????

Yes I can read, I am Conservative also. I just had an email exchange with a friend who is a birther about the same thing.

She wrote:

Rob,
Just so you know, Perry DIDN'T raise the BC issue.

It was someone at Parade Magazine who interviewed Perry who raised the question

The Republican White House hopeful said he has "no reason to believe" that President Obama was not born in the United States - but he still isn't sure if Obama's birth certificate is legit.
"I don't have a definitive answer," Perry said in an interview with Parade magazine, after being pressed for a firm answer on whether he thought Obama was born in the United States.

I replied:

The Republican White House hopeful said he has "no reason to believe" that President Obama was not born in the United States ----- Then Stop. Nothing else needs to be said. The fact he kept rambling after that shows he is not quick on his feet!

after being pressed for a firm answer on whether he thought Obama was born in the United States...... He should simply have said Pres Obama is a terrible President and his policies foreign and Domestic are disastrous for the Nation but he is the Constitutionally elected President.

Of course it was a "gotcha" question. That is what the left media does. But they "got him" on his own answer!!!

Mr. Perry's responses do not even sound intelligent. It is one thing to be extreme, but he just doesn't seem capable of responding intelligently to questions.

1st, if Obama had his birth cert he should have just produced it when it started and put it to bed. People have to have it for other things, why not to be presedent. 2nd, i will say obama is doing a terrible job and has done more wrong things since he has been in office than bush one and two put together. not that bush didnt make mistakes mind you, but this pres, omg.

The whole BIRTHER issue was initiated by the dems when they questioned John McCain being born in Panama. If they had not started it, it may not have morphed into what it is today.
10:21 PM on 10/25/2011
Why is it we don't hear anything else about that, I guess Dems can let things go when they are a nonissue
