Burger King Unveils BK Chef's Choice Premium Hamburger

First Posted: 10/24/11 05:50 PM ET Updated: 10/24/11 05:50 PM ET

Last month, Wendy's rolled out Dave's Hot 'N Juicy burger, a burger with a thick beef patty that took two years to develop. Now, as of October 24, Burger King is adding its own premium burger to the ring. The BK Chef's Choice, is made with ground chuck, American cheese, thick cut bacon, Romaine lettuce, red onions and tomatoes.

The introduction of this new burger is one of several recent menu changes, including revamped desserts and the addition of oatmeal to the breakfast menu. Early reports expressed some confusion about what exactly made the burger a "chef's choice" besides the ground chuck patty and bacon.

"The new BK Chef's Choice burger provides a premium, made fresh-to-order sandwich which brings a whole new level of excitement to our menu," Alex Macedo, Senior Vice President of North America marketing, said in a statement.

The burger is served on an "artisan-style bun" and has a suggested retail price of $4.99.

This thing is horrible. I've never actively disliked a burger so much. The bun is good. The veggies, sauce, bacon, cheese, all fine. But that "meat"? It's disgusting. It tastes like an Army MRE beef patty. Definitely not flame broiled, with a cheap veggie burger like consistency. Yuck!

Wendy's took 2 years to develop their latest burger? That seems a bit extensive, unless of course you spend that time adding tons of ingredients you've never heard of to make something you could do at home using things you recognize as "food"

My thoughts exactly....lol.

This looks as if Burglar King are trying to compete with Fuddruckers. I wouldn't buy one.

If fast food joints want to do quick cheap food, just stick to that. They seem to want to do everything now. The only burger joint I eat at is In N Out. They have burgers, fries, shakes; and that's about it. Their fries start out in the morning as a bag of potatoes. It's simplicity.

I drove through a Jack In The Box drive thru the other day...just to get a drink for my kid. I looked at the menu...burgers, tacos, pizza, teriyaki bowls. Love their commercials, but their menu just looked bizarre.

Exactly! I only eat at In-N-Out as well. It's the best tasting fast food burger going, and the prices are reasonable. Plus, like you, I like the simple menu. Burger, fries, shake or soda. It's just that easy.

Pass on the onions and bacon.

And pickles if it's got 'em.

And mayo, mustard, special sauce or whatever.

I like my burgers plain. Burger, cheese, ketchup, tomato and lettuce on a bun. Toasted bun preferred.

Same burger, different name. Perfect excuse to add a buck to my "value" meal. No thanks. I'll stick to Five Guys

"The Chef's Choice brings a whole new level of excitement to our menu" sez Senior VP Alex Macedo. Yeah Al, I'm just jumpin' up and down here.

This is the "Best damn burger." 40% less $ then five guys and served a full 12 minutes quicker.

I had the Five Guys burger and all I remember was the outrageous prices, the sloppy hotdog and the bag of greasy fries I make better at home with garlic salt and pepper.

I don't understand the appeal of that place at all.

I agree. The burgers are good, but way overpriced for what you get. The bag of greasy fries is definitely a turn off.

2 years to develop a hamburger, huh?

Imagine the $5 burger you could create at home. Yum.
