Brad Pitt In 'Twelve Years A Slave': Steve McQueen Film Nabs Star

Brad Pitt's Slavery Story

Their films will be going head-to-head at this year's Oscars, but if all goes well, Brad Pitt and Steve McQueen could be stumping for gold alongside each other come next year's awards season.

According to The Playlist, Pitt has joined "Shame" director Steve McQueen's next project, "Twelve Times A Slave," the true story about a free black man who was tricked and lured into becoming a slave in the 1850s. Pitt, who is also producing, will co-star alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, who has long been attached to the project.

Pitt, who earned raves for his role in "Moneyball," just filmed the zombie apocalypse film "World War Z," and will also appear in "Cogan's Trade" and voice a character in "Happy Feet 2."

As for McQueen, his "Shame," which stars Michael Fassbender as a sex addict and Carey Mulligan as his troubled sister, was bought by Fox Searchlight but will receive an NC-17 ratings for nudity. It has earned critical raves and is expected to contend for major awards.
