Hillary Clinton Style Evolution: A Look Back At Scrunchies, Headbands & More (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post
First Posted: 10/25/2011 6:44 pm Updated: 12/25/2011 4:12 am

From scrunchies to headbands, up 'dos to butterfly clips, there are few hairstyles Hillary Clinton hasn't bravely attempted.

The politico (and political wife) has made history for her accomplishments in the realm of law, politics and diplomacy. But along the way we've also been watching her style, whether it was the unfortunate hair styles, the oversized jackets, the beloved pantsuits and even a few ball gowns.

Just like in politics, Hillary's been critiqued (Tim Gunn recently questioned her borderline masculine look).

But she's stuck to her guns -- and her favorite styles. The shoulder-length blonde hair, bright colors and, yes, the pantsuits are here to stay.

In honor of the Secretary of State's 64th birthday on Wednesday, here's a look back at over three decades of Hillary Clinton's most memorable looks!

Haha! I love this topic! So currently relevant and at the same time so completely frivolous! Touched on this a while ago also...the theory is that you can tell a lot about a woman by her hair...and hair ties, and head bands, and bad hair days...etc. A woman in Hillary's position + a bad hair day = LOOK OUT! Lol! Why Sould We Care About Hillary Clinton's Hair? fiftyisthenewforty.net/inspiration/hillary-clintons-hair/

Seriously? We are talking about a former Senator and the current Secretary of State not a model. Her evolving fashion? Regardless of your opinion of her policy choices and/or agenda dont you think an article about her fashion which you'd never see on John Boehner/Joe Bidan/Paul Ryan a bit sexist?

I would rather focus on Hilary Clintons accomplishments not her hairbands. Oprah did a show recently called Mis Representation. It addresses just this phenomenon. Women can kick but in economics, foreign policy and domestic issues but when it comes down to it her hair style is newsworthy? BullPucky

I know next to nothing about style, but it seems to me that Hillary looks best when she smiles.

Ha! Well put - I agree with you 100%!!

She's had some hits and misses as far as her wardrobe goes, but there's always been a subtle subtext of her femininity. I love her formal looks most.

I like Hillary's style; she is a woman that appears comfortable in her own skin. I also think she has been blessed with a great head of hair and am glad that she is wearing it a little longer! Good for her.

Ditto that!

wtf? Because she is female you are focused on her appearance? Let's focus on the relevant - her approach in diplomacy, her ideas on the world stage... Her hairstyle & physical attractiveness ure freakin' irrelevant. Where are your "news" articles on McCain's manner of dress, receding hairline... Or any other male politician or person influence? Frig, get your mind into the current decade- this isn't the 50s. THIS is an example of the failure of the press and society. Don't focus on the issues...noooo, let's focus on clothing and physical appearance instead of facts. Don't educate and inform, but fuel ignorance. Disgusting..read this article in a stereotypical "Valley Girl" style and you'll capture the essence of sexist fluff that is insulting to the intelligence and to the contributions of women around the world.

I hate to be the subject matter Nazi, but here goes...

Hilary's political stuff can usually be found in the political section of HuffPo. This is the style section where they talk about this sort of stuff. It would be silly to talk about politics in a style section, don't you think?

It's silly to discuss wardrobe choices made by a Secretary of State. Hillary Clinton deserves better.

The White House??? Have you no words for the arrogant Congress?

Warren Buffett, "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months
& 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I meant everyone involved in our government when I said White House... Are you saying that the public is being to passive? The problem is they arrest you, and if you are tight on cash, how will you get out? That is why the rich are protesting in New York, bail out and attorneys - not to mention the fines are nothing for them...
