Jerry Rice Jr.: Hall Of Famer's Son To Play In First College Football Game

Hall Of Famer's Son To Play In First College Football Game

Like father like son?

We'll see.

According to the LA Times, Jerry Rice Jr., a redshirt sophomore at UCLA and son of NFL hall of famer Jerry Rice, will get to see his first game action in college this Saturday when the Bruins play against Cal.

Rice has only spent time playing on the scout team thus far in his career, but will be given the opportunity to play this Saturday after four of UCLA's receivers were suspended for their involvement in a in-game brawl against Arizona last Thursday.

Although Rice was considered a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com out of high school, according to the site he received no scholarship offers from major schools, resulting in him choosing to attend UCLA as a walk-on.

Now after waiting patiently, the son of the greatest wide receiver in NFL history will finally get his shot.

"I want to get into the end zone," Rice told the LA Times. "Maybe get three or four catches. Anything else would be a bonus."

In August, UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel said he expected Rice to get a shot at some point. "Jerry Rice Jr.'s opportunity will come, I'm pretty confident about that," Neuheisel told CBS Sports. "When it comes, I think he'll respond."

Coming off a 48-12 shellacking at the hands of a then 1-5 Arizona team probably means the Bruins could use a shot of life. Relying on a former scout team player to provide that may seem like a longshot, but any fan of football will have trouble betting against someone who shares genes with the greatest of all time.
