Noreaster: New York City Halloween Snow Expected

Snow This Weekend!

Trick-or-sleet!

A scary snowstorm creeping towards the Northeast won't spare New York City this Halloween weekend. Some cold rain turned into snow Saturday morning, meaning a half-inch to an inch of snow sticking to grass while leaving pavement basically clear. Suburbs north and west of the city are expected to get several inches of snow, and parts of New Jersey and the Catskills could get up to 10 inches.

New Yorkers can also expect temperatures in the 30s and 40s with wind chills in the 20s and should beware of ice on the roads.

And it's not even Halloween yet!

In the past 143 years, New York's only seen snow in October 18 times, only 3 of which were over an inch of accumulation. And the last time flurries fell before Halloween in Gotham was in 1952.

According to NBC New York, the New York City Department Of Sanitation, looking to redeem itself from its poor response to last year's Christmas blizzard, is already preparing its salt spreaders, plows and snow staff.

Incidentally, earlier this month, the weather service declared Oct. 23 to Oct. 29 "winter awareness week." Spooky.
