Tyler Thigpen Hit In Head By Football On Sideline During Bills-Redskins Game (VIDEO)

This Backup QB Wasn't Prepared To Play

Awareness is a key part to playing quarterback in the NFL. Even backup quarterbacks need to be mentally sharp at all times. After all, the starter could be felled by a huge hit on any offensive play. Or, in some cities, the crowd could chant for a quarterback change.

Late in the second quarter of Buffalo's shutout win over Washington on Sunday, Redskins linebacker London Fletcher rocked Bills signal caller Ryan Fitzpatrick, and it looked as if Fitz was going to have to leave the game.

Someone tossed Bills backup Tyler Thigpen a ball for him to loosen up his arm, but the second-string QB didn't see it coming and took one right to the helmet. To be sure, this isn't the sort of field vision that is going to turn heads. Nor is it the sort of field vision that allowed Thigpen to turn his own head to see a flying object.

To make matters worse for Thigpen, he didn't get to redeem himself on the field because Fitzpatrick was able to shrug off the hit and go back in the game.
