Carla Bruni, Nicolas Sarkozy Step Out With Giulia (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 10/31/2011 12:00 pm Updated: 12/31/2011 4:12 am

Carla Bruni was psyched about giving birth so she could get back to her chic French life, which consisted largely of smoking and drinking.

But it looks like the new mother, whose daughter Giulia was born on October 20, has shifted not back into her glamorous ways but into full-on mom mode: the French First Lady was seen walking in Versailles' La Lanterne Park with Giulia wearing a zip-up, stretch pants and uncharacteristically un-coiffed hair.

It is worth noting that President Sarkozy seems to have taken the casual cue, with an athletic hoodie thrown over his shoulders.

It may not be her classic Christian Dior style, but we have to admit: we love Carla's new, messy mom look.

Check out the French First Family below!

She makes him a much better man, no doubt.

Good grief -- she gave birth 10 days ago and all the nasty comments on here?! Wow -- she looks great. The nasty comments make Americans look that much uglier!

And how did you look after the birth of your baby who was waking up every few hours?

I was a new mom at 39, trust me, she looks fabulous.

New moms have a completely different kind of glow, particularly when they hold their newborns.

I think she is just a mother, addittionally she is Italian. For us at first place there is the baby. For sure this magic moment that she is living now is only for the little Giulia at the same time I remind you all that the first 3 months are very very hard if you are not used. In Europe principles and traditions are very important even if you are a first lady.. I don't understand when people makes such negative comments about the look or the style. Additionally, I am sure, that as a good Italian mother, Carla is taking care by herself for the baby, that means especially sleepless nights and a completely change in habits. Brava Carla, Sei una brava mamma!!

I agree and Fanned...however :-)

Born Italian, she is now French..as a good French first lady and mother her baby is the most cherished thing in her life, not fashion, and she is obviously telling the world that by taking a casual stroll in the fresh air for her own well-being as well as sa petite fille, Giulia. Je t'aime, Carla, vous êtes une mère magnifique. (An American proudly of Acadian French heritage)

Man it sucks to be a famous woman. You get ragged on if you look good, you get ragged on if you don't, get ragged on if you have a bad hair day, ragged on if you have a look normal day. Funny thing is most the ragging comes from other women.......

Good lord! Childbirth is rough.
08:59 AM on 11/01/2011
It's not rough it's a blessing and a natural life event. Women have managed to do it all for millennium.

Beware the motherhoodie... better to have group marriage for geodesic living with multiple soulmates and a flexible paent to child ratio for population control and to keep from over-fixation on child control and the loss of sexual freedom in the name of motherhooded enslavement......

All worth it if at their 18 birthday your child loves you and the kid has a strong head on their shoulders.

The top is obviously cachemere and the sweat pants could be Dior, Hermès ou something similar.

It could be 100% unicorn skin and she'd still look like something the cat got.
