Jessica Simpson Says Gaining Weight Has Been Great For Business

Jessica Simpson: 'Not Making Myself Anorexic Was Great For Branding'

Jessica Simpson finally confirmed the world's worst kept secret that yes, she is pregnant. But before she announced that she's expecting, she spoke to Lucky magazine about her much publicized weight gain.

The 31-year-old singer told the magazine, "I got so much scrutiny for putting on extra pounds, but I think that the decision not to make myself anorexic was actually great for branding," she says. "Because when you're really, really skinny, not everybody can relate to you."

According to Lucky, Jessica's weight gain caused people to stop seeing her as "the ditzy blonde with the hot body and instead Simpson became a real person with real familiar struggles."

Following the weight gain, the singer and designer launched a reality show called "Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty" where she traveled around the world to examine how different cultures define beauty and the lengths women go in order to achieve it.

Jessica told the magazine that women started coming up to her to tell her that she was setting a great example by not constantly dieting.

"Everybody fluctuates, but I'm open about my weight and I'm still confident," Jessica says. "I didn't cry about it too much."

Perhaps it was good for business as The Jessica Simson Collection is poised to pull in nearly a billion dollars by the end of 2012.

And although Jessica hadn't come clean about her pregnancy yet, the magazine had to know what's going on with her wedding to Eric Johnson.

"I haven't started shopping for our wedding yet," Jessica admits. "When I got engaged, everyone thought I would get married immediately, but I have not put a single dress on, and by the time this comes out I will not be married! We're just enjoying being engaged right now -- and that's honest."
