Chris Rock Talks Early Days With Eddie Murphy On 'WTF With Marc Maron' (VIDEO)

Chris Rock is the latest comedian to visit "The Cat Ranch" to talk to Marc Maron about his life in comedy on the podcast "WTF." In a clip from the episode that will be released on Thursday, Rock talks about his early days doing stand-up in an environment when Eddie Murphy was one of the most established black comedians in a time when white comedians dominated the field.

When Murphy was announced as the host of next Academy Awards ceremony, many questioned the choice. Despite being one of the most popular stand-up comedians of the '80s, Murphy has rarely performed live over the last two decades. In this teaser clip on "WTF," Rock and Maron discuss a time when Murphy was a prominent comedian, and how far his career has shifted from its stand-up roots.

"Whenever I'm around Eddie ... at some point, he asks me about [comedian] Fred Stoller, because that was one of the last guys he did a gig with, the last vestige of his old life," Rock tells Maron. "He's always like, 'What's Freddie Stoller doing?' In [Murphy's] $50 million mansion."

Rock's career has intersected with Murphy's on more than one occasion, as Rock surely discusses further on the full episode of "WTF." Both actors are alums of "Saturday Night Live" who later achieved massive fame for their respective iconic stand-up specials. Rock's first credited role was a walk-on in "Beverly Hills Cop II," and Murphy also cast him in a small part in "Boomerang." Rock later provided a voice in Murphy's hit "Dr. Dolittle."
