New Hampshire Primary Election 2012: Date Set For January 10

First Posted: 11/02/2011 10:52 am Updated: 01/02/2012 4:12 am

New Hampshire's 2012 primary election will be held on January 10, according to Granite State-based outlet WMUR.

The contest was originally scheduled to take place on February 14. The shift comes as only the latest to be made on the election calendar since Florida moved up its primary just over a month ago.

New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner officially announced his state's new 2012 primary date on Wednesday.

The AP reports:

The Jan. 10 date announced by Secretary of State Bill Gardner Wednesday had been widely expected since Nevada Republicans voted last month to shift their presidential caucuses to early February, ending what had become a bitter standoff among rival states. Gardner had warned that Nevada's initial decision to hold its contest in mid-January could force New Hampshire to vote in early December.

Iowa will vote a week ahead of New Hampshire, with South Carolina, Florida and Nevada coming afterward.

New Hampshire House Speaker William O'Brien spoke out on the Sunshine State leapfrogging on the calendar last month. "Florida may dilute the value of their primary, but we certainly won't allow their actions to minimize the New Hampshire primary," he told Exeter Patch.

On the heels of Florida's initial change of plans -- a move that many expected could spark a stampede of shifts on the election calendar -- former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu said, "Iowa picks corn, Florida picks oranges, and New Hampshire picks presidents."

Mitt Romney's still our man for the Whitehouse! With his commitment to repealing ObamaCare and Frank Dodd, he will set the nation back onto a more prosperous, free market pathway.

I would still like to see Newt debate Obama. I think he would tear him up. Romney worries me with his mumbling and stumbling......and sometime he doesn't appear very smart or committed fully to his answers. I just don't get it with him......there's just something negative there.....I dunno. I still have my heart on Cain, but now it doesn't look good for him. He may pull through.

I agree--I like Newt--smart guy. Cain is a businessman caught unprepared for dirty politic. Romney is the only one with the organization and money to beat Obama. Hopefully, he will pick one of the above as his running mate.

Yay free market. Companies should be allowed to pay China wages- no more minimum wage, Gut the EPA-pollute as needed, make 8 billion a quarter while I'm paying 3.50 a gal. at the pump ( how Patriotic is that) , free trade so job exporters, oops creators, can make more money and pay no taxes. We don't really need a middle class anyway. Nor do we need an elderly population that can live in dignity so let's gut S.S. and Medicare too. Or instead we could look to my most inspirational liberal hero ( no, not Soros ), Jesus and do as he would do.

bigprogressivejohn...the EPA caused their own demise by all the dumb lawsuits and trying to claim Co2 is a pollutant...this is how stupid people are...if we take all the Co2 out of the atmosphere...what would be the result? Clean Air? No, What would happen is all the trees would die because they take in Co2 and emit oxygen...you know, that stuff in the air that we as humans need to breathe...and as far as Jesus, he would advise us to turn to our fellow Christians and church for help if we needed it...not some power hungry, corrupt, self-serving government...

I went to the NH primary in 2000. The same sort of BS came out about Gore W. It didn't mean anything to the voters then and the charges against Cain will mean nothing now. By the way if you want some fun and really meet the candidates face to face go to NH aabout Jann 7th. ENJOY

Why do they even bother? I mean seriously giving them money to campaign is like throwing it out of the window. Everybody knows Obama is going to win.

Who cares? Their candidate will not be President. None of them are qualified to be dogcatcher, much less President.

Why the snide shots when we have a sorry sight of a president now? If you like what we have now, just wait until a second Obama term, when the Welfare State is complete and we have turned into another Greece. Then, who's going to bail us out? Neptune?
02:42 AM on 11/03/2011
If you honestly believe any of the GOPers are going to accomplish any economic miracles, might I remind you of the 6 years when the GOP had control of the White House and the Congress and was unable to create jobs?

Any of these GOPers in the White House and we WILL be another Greece. The "Welfare State" is NOT what got Greece into its present troubles. The center-right "New Democracy Party" was in charge of the government from 2004 to 2009 (not coincidentally the period in which the country's current woes started showing up).

Honestly NH can pick whoever they want but they will have no effect on the rest of the northeast. Not even the New England states will vote the same way NH does.

So do the states that moved their primaries because Florida did get the same penalty? And why do these tiny states get such excessive political benefits by getting to go first annually?

I'm pretty underwhelmed with all the hoopla over a mediocre field (at best) that the GOP has presented. Even Terry the Koran burning preacher is jumping into the hog slop, it is so awful. The only group laughing their way to the bank are the media outlets that sell political advertisements. This is about the only redistribution of wealth you can expect to see out of this crowd.

the best bet for the Republicans would be to have the Primeries on November the 27 the day after Thankgiving, every one voting will still be groody from the Turkey they stuffed themselves on thr day before and will not give a dam who they chose. So it will be up to the Republican Election Committee to chose who won the the election. And those of us who are employed the few are far between will have the day off. So we wont miss any work. And since the nomannees will be chosen by people who are half asleep The Pee Wee Herman will get the most votes.
