Sofia Vergara Is Becoming A Media Entrepreneur (PHOTOS)

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is becoming a one man band, and no we're not talking about her posing nude. Sorry.

After being nominated for an Emmy and winning an award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for 'Modern Family' by the NAACP Image Awards, she launched her clothing and accessories line at Kmart.

The Colombian actress said in an interview with Primer Ahora that she is teaming up with Mexican-American boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya to launch a health website, SuperVida.com, in 2012. Vergara said in an interview with Primera Hora, that being diagnosed with thyroid cancer served as her motivation to reach more Hispanics on important health issues.

"We are going to launch a website called SuperVida, dedicated to educating Hispanic families on health issues that most affect us. There are 50 million Hispanics in this country and there is not a resource like this and we need it. It is going to be revolutionary to better and save lives," Vergara said to Primer Ahora.

Vergara can now add "philanthropist" to her title as she has just been named the Co-chair of BeLive, an "event that raises much-needed funds for four Colombian non-profit organizations, such as: Give to Colombia, Formula Sonrisas, Genesis Foundation and ArtNexus Foundation," as stated in the press release.

The 5th Anniversary of BeLive will take place on Thursday, November 17 at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.

I have never watched Modern Family or the Smurf's Movie, so only the Thyroid Cancer part and Sofia's good looks... Hey, I like the big lips.. caught my attention. People who survive Cancer, in my experience, obtain a new viewpoint about life and what is really important.. So Sofia, if you read this::
Please ignore any detractors, celebrate life by giving something back, it's the right track.. It's also a nice story for a change.

She's working on reaching the Hispanic community because she is Colombian and her career was launched in Latin America and that is where the majority of her fan base is located (and Hispanics in the U.S. that keep up with Latin entertainment). Also, among the Hispanic community there are certain diseases which have not been brought into the spotlight or talked about, yet affect many of the members of the Hispanic community. There is nothing wrong with her trying to help out, and here in America she is still seen as solely a sex-pot with a good sense of humor. Not sure too many people would take her seriously just yet. She has been in the spotlight for many, many years but only recently became famous in the United States thanks to Modern Family. And if I'm not mistaken she is actually engaged to a man who was thinking of running as a republican politician in Florida. Doesn't seem too liberal to me.

Why do people bag on her? Overexposed? I wish! She's smart, hard working, beautiful, successful, doing things for the community, came here LEGALLY and is a very positive influence on our society. If only more Latinos followed her example!
