Colbert Tells Poor 'Become Rich People's Pets' (VIDEO)

Colbert Ows Rich Pets

Continuing his satirical coverage of the Occupy Wall Street movement and its message of the 99% vs. 1%, Stephen Colbert offered a bold new solution to income inequality: the poor should become rich people's pets.

On his recurring segment "The Word," Colbert explained that since the pets of rich people seem to have more disposable income than the poor -- and even enjoy healthcare -- that becoming the cherished property of the affluent could be a good career move for the 99%.

Watch the whole clip above and let us know what your solution to income inequality would be.

Oddly enough, as a kid, I occasionally wished I could turn into a dog and be adopted by a nice, rich family.

The segment on becoming rich people's pets is one of the funniest bits I've seen on Colbert in awhile.True comic genius:funny but sadly true. Many of us do treat our pets better than we treat each other.800,000 animals have insurance;a billion dollar pet supply/grooming/boarding industry.I have always been a super conscientious, compassionate dog owner.I'm going to try to treat my friends & family as patiently & lovingly as I do my dogs (Rudy & Seymour) both rescued mutts; one with a tumor & one with cushings disease.

A few bread crumbs and some catchup.  Cat food meatloaf will look good when you are hungry.

here's the sad thing. my pets' food has more diverse protein than I can afford for myself, and it gives them all their vitamins and nutrients. What's worse is that their kibble is probably better for them than the people food I can afford at the store on a monthly basis.

It's a black humor comment.  Don't take offense.  If you don't laugh, you will cry.

It's a sad day in America when people are spending $50 billion a year on their pets while people are living on the streets with no medicine (for schizophrenia), food, or shelter. Oh wait, that's always been true in the United States.
