Neil Patrick Harris, Aspiring Oscar Host?

Neil Patrick Harris has taken two well-regarded turns hosting the Tony Awards, and as the rare triple threat of talented singer, dancer and comedian, many see the "How I Met Your Mother" star as a perfect candidate to host the Academy Awards.

Don't count NPH himself amongst them, though.

Sitting down to talk about his warped role in "A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas," the man who was Doogie Howser said that he had very little desire to take a turn throwing jokes in front of Hollywood's elite.

"I am actively anti-campaigning. I don't think it's the big job everyone thinks it is. It's one night when people win awards. It's a years worth of people over thinking that night," he told Hit Fix.com. "Whether it's Oscar campaigns or specific campaigns for and then you have publicist and studios and everyone has such a vested interest in that one night that it's a pressure cooker. It's a big deal, but to come out as the host? Unless you are doing Billy Crystal it's really difficult. And I think if you are doing Billy Crystal I think you get hit for being Billy Crystal, so I think you're a big target regardless what you do. I mean, look at what happened with Anne and James. They just got slammed for it. Both of them."

True, but we're semi-confident that Harris wouldn't turn the show into some performance art piece like the seemingly detached Franco did last year, what with his delightfully bizarre backstage tweets and dress wearing antics. In any case, NPH to the Oscars isn't just some idle speculation; back in 2010, it was reported that he was close to replacing would-be host Hugh Jackman, before Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin signed on as co-hosts.

Still, he did perform the opening number that year, to great fanfare, so there's always a chance. Or so we hope.
