Steven Shields, Vacaville School Official, Arrested On Child Pornography Charges

School Official Arrested For Child Porn

A school administrator in California city of Vacaville has been arrested on child pornography charges after a police search of his home in the nearby suburb of Clayton revealed illicit images on his computer.

Steven Shields, the 43-year old Assistant Superintendent of Business and Administration Services for the Vacaville Unified School District, was placed on paid administrative leave immediately following his being taken into custody on Wednesday morning.

No pornographic material was found on any of the Shields's work computers or mobile electronic devices.

Shields began working with the school district earlier this year. Previously, he was an official with the Newark Unified School District and the Merced City School District.

"There is no indication that Mr. Shields has had any inappropriate contact with any student or engaged in any inappropriate activity in the workplace," said Vallejo Superintendent John Niederkorn said in a statement to KCRA TV.

Shields is currently being held on $20,000 bail.

"I personally did not know Mr. Shields, but I do know that the district did not renew his contract," Newark Superintendent of Schools Dave Marken told the Contra Costa Times. "It's certainly a very sad and tragic situation...We're just sick."
