Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Potentially on a screen near you thanks to Jennifer Lopez.
Walden Media has acquired rights to turn Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? into a feature film, reports Deadline Hollywood. And Lopez will be involved.
It's doubtful the actress will play the titular character though. Jenny From The Block's only role will be that of producer.
According to Deadline, the movie's concept will be "'National Treasure' meets 'The Thomas Crown Affair,'" and will feature the super sleuth tangled up in a high-profile heist.
"Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?" debuted in 1985 as a computer game and book. Over the years more games and books developed, and the series is still used as a teaching tool in many elementary schools nationwide. Fans will even remember the PBS gameshow that aired on PBS from 1991 to 1995.
In the late 1990s Disney looked into creating a Carmen Sandiego movie starring Sandra Bullock, but it never got off the ground.
Brodenburd debuted the original Carmen Sandiego game in 1985.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting show taught a generation of kids lessons in geography.
The song was awesome.
This iteration kind of looked like Captain Planet.
Kids want to learn about history too!
For the record, I love thrift stores solely because of the awesome stuff you can find there. Often times you can find really good stuff, and it's cheap. Like this game for example. Cost me $2 and the disc is in near perfect condition. This game makes me miss old PBS children's programming. Stuff that actually made you think and didn't talk down to the viewers. I miss Ghostwriter and Wishbone too. I actually ended up reading Hound of the Baskervilles and The Three Musketeers(Damn Dumas is depressing! I read books to escape in to worlds where things turn out better, not where they turn out like they would in real life! I actually prefer the Disney version with Tim Curry, Charlie Sheen, Oliver Plat, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O'Donnell, and the actress that plays Fiona in Burn Notice! She was still pretty hot back then too.) because of Wishbone. ANYWAY! The game follows the basic Where in X is Carmen Sandiego formula. Find clues, track down the crook, and cuff 'em. They've actually released a version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego on FaceBook that plays almost identically to this. It's one of the few games I'll actually play on FaceBook along with Oregon Trail and Fantasy Online. Actual games on FaceBook! Let's hope the trend catches on!
