Dwell Design Lab: Event Brings Public Into The Inspiration Behind Design (PHOTOS)

MOD SCIENCE: Inside The Minds Of The Hottest Designers

Last weekend, Dwell Media curated Bay Area designers like Min Day Architects, David Mast Design and Barbara Scavullo Design for the first-ever Dwell Design Lab at Millennium Tower, raising money for the Junior League of San Francisco.

In a slick SOMA penthouse, more than a dozen designers presented new projects in a science fair-like setting alongside design boards filled with the words, pictures and objects that inspired the piece. Visitors drank wine and checked out projects like a living wall, a minimalist bedspread made from Goodwill sweaters and a light installation made of silk cocoons. With all designers on site, guests were free to talk shop, ask questions and give feedback on each presentation.

"This was a real collaboration, a real group effort," said Dwell Media President Michela O'Connor Abrams, "and that energy was shared between the designers and the visiting public."
