Thrillist Picks The 7 Coolest Vacations Around The Globe (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/04/11 09:29 AM ET   Updated: 11/04/11 09:29 AM ET

With the holidays coming up and the kids soon to be on leave from school, it's time to start brainstorming winter vacations. Sure to grandmother's house we could go, but that ranks as a less exciting option. And, of course, there's Orlando, New York and all of the great cities of Europe. Been there, done that?

Instead of those vacation standards, how does spending the night in a treehouse, visiting a reality TV show set or getting up close and personal with sharks sound? To break out of the vacation box, Thrillist.com has shared with us seven on the most unique vacations around.

Bonus: Some of these alternative vacays are located in warm destinations--perfect for escaping that whole winter wonderland thing.

Located about 10 minutes from the Strip, the Punk House is a 3BR owned by NOFX's Fat Mike. The living room rocks a sunken bar and TV, while other amenities include pinball, billiards, and a record player that comes with vinyl. The backyard features a nine-hole mini-golf course, over-sized tiki hut, slide, pool, hot tub, and a Paltry Museum of punk relics.

So...anybody know what the species of sharks are in that Honduras location, coming up from depths of 6K feet to 2K feet? Why would it be so hard to include the species rather than the general "some of the largest predatory sharks in the world" thing?

Wouldn't mind going to some of the places but "in my dreams" because we could not afford that type of a vacation. Nice to look at though and good for those who can.

Vegas used to be great. I loved going there in the 70s,80s, even early 90s. But now, its all mega hotels. No one knows your name. Used to be nice. Check in, knew who you were, got your Casino Host, he'd set you up, rate your play, get your comps, perks, free shows. I still go every now and then, but I go to the old hotels that are left. Flamingo is great. Still old service Vegas, get a suite for under $150 a nite or less if your rated, and the tables are hot. But the best action now is off the strip in the old section where the people who live there go. You can still get $5.99 buffets all you can eat, great gambling. The new mega hotels are more for party people, kids, teens, and pool loungers. All what you want. Myself, when I go to Vegas, its to gamble, why else?

This all well and good, but the 99% can't afford to go to places like this. These resorts, etc. are for the rich and worthless.

Anyone can sit behind a desk, and leaf through travel magazines and come up with the same results .But not everyone is a snobbish ,dreamland know it all .Got the feeling the auther doesn't have a clue about the thoughts of normal families .I would venture to say more families would rather be on a cruise ship .
